The points were not awarded to you, why do you think you are entitled to them?
    What?!

If you find £1 on the street, do you keep it?
Some give it away to charity, I don't but according to your logic, I am not entitled to it.

If someone didn't want the points, it's clearly not theft as the original receipt owner DID NOT WANT the points therefore the new owner didn't "cause loss to another".

I have done this plenty of times (found one receipt with 20 points on it once!) and will continue to do it. While I am sure Tesco won't particularly agree this is okay, I am pretty sure they're not that bothered.

I am really surprised people are jumping on the side of Tesco on this one.
People on this site flaunt T&C's all the time, then when someone gets caught out point the blaming finger. Banking is a good section where people will say "I am fulfilling the requirements of the account", knowing they aren't using the account as it was meant to be used.

People need to get back to the point, which is the BANNING FROM THE STORE. It's not like they robbed goods - just 2 pence, which I would predict at least a 3rd of shoppers do when they much on things walking around or eat the odd grape.

How about we all just pipe down until we hear the security guards side of the story ?

    Cornucopia, where do you live?

I wouldn't mind having a look through your bins to see if there is anything of value I could use. I'm sure you won't mind.

Be my guest. The communal bins here are filthy.

This isn't the issue, BTW, but nice try.

    Nonsense. Utter nonsense.

Have you been asleep since Tesco`s results came out a couple weeks ago and the CEO resigned because of the disastrous figures, blaming lost of market share to the discounters, Aldi and Lidl. ;)

Shareholders accuse ‘deluded’ Tesco bosses over fall in profits: Loss of sales to rivals Aldi and Lidl blamed on ‘arrogance’

    • Bosses blasted as 'arrogant' by angry shareholders after sales slump
    • Underlying pre-tax profits down by six per cent in the last financial year
    • Effectively means a fall of some £500million compared to two years ago

They banned him, he can't shop there anyway now so it's hardly a thread no matter how well Tesco is doing compared to Lidl Aldi etc.

    And yet it is.

Sure. And I said that they were legally able to ban him for whatever reason they chose. (With implied limitations with regards to discrimination).

However, according to the OP, he was not banned for breaching the Ts & Cs of Clubcard, but for "theft". Therefore, they brought in the question of criminal law, not me.

This is an interesting point. I didn't ask to be born a citizen-consumer, but as long as I am, then surely the capability to consume is part of being a citizen

I can only echo what Topdaddy said. Your posts don't make any sense at all. Your analogy's never work. They don't allow you to take receipts out of bin to claim points, they banned him for it. They can do this, it's their own store. There has been no breech of freedom

As private interests control more and more of our public space, then this will increasingly happen. It's not a great way to address the issue of personal freedom.

Tesco own the shop, it's not like it's a public space like a park would be. This is nothing to do with freedom, they own it, they can ban who they want.

You're barking up the wrong tree with everything you say.

    What analogy's [sic]?

I happen to have a particular view that private companies should (a) refrain from making up the law as they go along, (b) get a life (and don't be so petty), (c) observe the law as it applies to civil treatment of citizen-consumers, (d) not bully people, even if they make minor transgressions, and (e) not throw their weight around even though they have vastly more money and resources than any of us.

I get it, you disagree with me.

It would be nice to see a cogent argument on the subject instead of post after post that says in various ways: we disagree.

You seem a bit out of touch with current events and totally missed the point of my first post.
I haven`t got time to explain it in words of one syllable.

And another thing: This doesn't make business sense, either. Tescos will lose vastly more than 2p profit even if the OP shops somewhere else for 3 months.

I'm not out of touch with current events, it's you who seem to miss my point. And why, oh why do people like you get abusive and come out with rubbish like explaining things in one syllable? Do you think it makes you look clever? It doesn't it just shows's childishness which completely contradicts your one syllable idea as it doesn't really show you at being all that mature does it!
