as mentioned before, it seems they still only serve a tiny proportion of the country, so no use to me.

they came up in a broadband genie search.

I was asking about 20mb as it's not much faster than the usual 17mb ads for adsl.

Ha, no I don't. I used to work for a well known broadband provider and as a result am aware of, and keep up-to-date with what is going on in the industry.

A lot of pure fibre providers don't need to use the 'up-to' tag unless you are at the upper range of their connection's ability. Sky's Fibre roll-out in York has a mixture of guaranteed and up-to speeds, depending on how fast you want to buy.

Hyperoptic are a specialist 'alt' Fibre BB provider that are only available in London and even then not on an individual basis. They only sign up blocks of properties, which usually means flats, and even then pick and choose their customers based upon the number and ease of installation costs.

If you can get it go for it although try and go for the higher speeds if you can

17MBps is the theoretical maximum for ADSL. Most users on that get nowhere near that speed.

I think the theoretical max for adsl2+ is 24Mb/s but OFCOM insisted that CP's used a figure that was achievable for a certain percentage of customers , so BT use 17Mb in their adverts,
As far as the OP question is it worth paying for 20Mb fibre broadband, only if it was a similar price to regular ADSL, and as Hyperoptic is not a FTTC solution, then why would they offer that speed when much faster speeds are available ?
Are you sure it's 20Mb and not 200 ?, even 200 would be a fraction of the speed they could offer if they are available at the building, but as others have said, they are a niche provider and available at a tiny number of locations, usually apartment blocks in large city's

Agree. Its like the definition of (fibre) super fast BB. The figure changes constantly. It was 30Mbps, then 24, 20 and now rests at 17, which is now available to almost 9 out of 10 homes in the UK (which now stands at 88% UK coverage).
