For the hard of reading and thinking:

I DONT CARE WHAT YOU YOURSELF CHOOSE TO BELIEVE. CHOOSE ANY ORGANISED RELIGION OR MAKE UP YOUR OWN, NO PROBLEM.

IT'S THE FORCING OF IT ON OTHERS THAT I CARE ABOUT. IN STATE SCHOOLS OR INDUCTING BABIES INTO ANY RELIGION, FOR EXAMPLE.

If you read my other posts properly you'll see that to be the case. ;)

But just because YOU despise all reglions does not give you the right to publicly denigrate those who do have beliefs.

    I've denigrated no one!

Yeah, sure. :rotfl: All the Christianity bashers are far too cowardly to bash certain religions, especially Islam. But for some reason Christianity is always mocked by the bashers.

    :p
You see this argument a lot these days, but isn't it worthy of praise and delight jaylee, that people don't feel intimated and frightened by Christians?

I don't want people to feel intimidated and frightened by Christians but if we aren't challenging society then we aren't fulfilling one of the reasons for being a Christian. When you believe that you know about something which you think is beneficial then surely you want to tell others.

I would love to see these people openly - and not anonymously - mock and ridicule Muslims. Yeah right ...

I assume you mean me. The reason I worded my post as I did is that I have been accused of racism before now, after writing similar to what I wrote earlier. The fact that Islam is not a 'race' does not prevent that epithet being thrown around.

I have no problem with individual Muslims, the few that I know personally. Actually, I've met a lot of them but at this time and the place where I live, I don't know any of them personally.

What is going on in Iraq and Syria mainly, and some other countries, frightens me to death. I feel desperately sorry for all the people concerned. Our political leaders took it on themselves to get rid of cruel tyrants e.g. Saddam Hussein. During his rule, however bad he was, Christians and others lived peacefully and undisturbed.

You object to having any religion forced on you or on others. If you lived in any of those places you would have religion forced on you, no question of that. You wouldn't be able to duck out by saying 'I don't believe in any religion'. There have been people executed in some of those Middle Eastern countries for being atheist. And don't get me started on 'honour killings' - committing the crime of marrying the wrong person or not marrying the person decided on for you. Or attempting to murder girls for going to school e.g. Malala.

AFAIK this is the only religion in the world at the moment - I'm not talking centuries ago - which is going to those extremes. Mockery and ridicule are not appropriate. Resistance is.

That's fine Torry - I think that's different from the argument that people will only criticise Christians and not 'other faiths' (and I think we all know which one is being referred to) because they would be too frightened to, which as I suggested is not something to aspire to for Christians surely?
And with your point, if you want to challenge society then surely others who view the world differently surely must be allowed to respond and disagree.

No doubt you've said in previous threads, or maybe even this one (so apologies if I've missed it), but is there any particular reason why you are like the way you are when it comes to religion?

A lot of people don't have faith/font go to Church, but I've never known anybody to be so down on religion as you are.

I don't go to Church and I'm not really religious. However, I have no problems with my parents getting me christened. It's something they wanted to do, it made them happy, so if it makes them happy it makes me happy.

My Mam is somewhat religious and regularly used to go to Church, I never have really, but it's never bothered her. I think she probably would have liked me to get married in a church, but both me and my husband weren't prepared to be hypocrites.
