Yup same with mine.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. OK to September (now I really will have to learn to use quotes). Unless anyone else is desperate - No I will do it. Don't know what happens after the surgery consult - could be okay go on waiting list to go on waiting list or need to do something soon. So will do it, will learn what I need to. Can I start with the turtle back story?
Today I am grateful for rain for the garden (not so grateful that 56 litre drip bin at side of house is full), for fridges and freezers (eaten some slightly peculiar things today but I did eat) and for a chance to take a step back and think about things (may actually make some money from something I did a while ago if I sort out formatting it etc).

Yeay! Go mothernerd excellent turtle story and brilliant news about you taking on the baton from Kat in September!
Oh my goodness Lilt I hope your brother is ok, wishing him well...
and big hugs Loveadove, it's so hard saying goodbye to things that have been with you for a long time - I think its totally ok to be emotional about cars - they are part of your life and often signify so much more than 4 wheels - freedom, independence and 'growing up'.
Keep strong Abundant we are all with you for this last final push! You are so nearly there! What are you DF plans? are you going to save up for anything? will you stay with us for that, or head off into the land of the financially free forever?
Very lazy rainy sunday here. Did some yoga and cleaned up the house. Read a lot of my book and watched some Netflix. Repeatedly stopped the cats squabbling as they are trapped inside by the rain and acting like bored children.. But it was a SFD! yeay!

Wow... that is a brilliant story mothernerd. I am so glad someone has stepped up to do September.
I watched a lot of teenage mutant ninja turtles but then I had an older brother so I watched a lot of boyish cartoons.
I didn't find it really violent though but I suppose it just depends on what you class it as. I don't find cartoons violent because they don't look realistic where as I can't watch war films as I find them too realistic.

My OH and I feel like that about our campervan loveadove so don't worry. When my parents said they were going to get rid of it, we agreed to take on the cost so that we could keep it. I do love the bongo. It is just the perfect recreational vehicle for us. Holidays are brilliant.
Once we are debt free, I am hoping we can go away most weekends I am off. It's a luxury but one that gives us so much joy that it is worth it.
:happyhear
Baking day today... and I killed the remaining two eggs (dropped the box). We did have good fun baking though. Not quite the great british bake off standard but we are eating it anyways. No waste in this house... except the broken eggs of course.
Working for the next three days so will have at least three spend-free days by Thursday.

Hope you are all doing okay.

mothernerd - what a lovely story, very much looking forward to what you come up with for September.
lilt - hope your brother is on the mend soon. I agree with you about contacting BT, they are a total pain, particularly the indian call centre people, they just put the phone down and erase the conversation from their minds it would seem.
abundant - keep ploughing ahead.
DS is having a friend over for the day today so it will be noisy here, me and DD are going to bake some pineapple muffins and I will get some other jobs done which are niggling at me.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Right...
Firstly Lilt I am so sorry about your brother. Glad he is getting better though or at least resting. And yes I am proud of you for saving that much money on a meager wage.. You are a little shining beacon!
Stewby - how luxury are we talking here...?
Poor Loveadove's car! I was thinking about selling Hercules The Bandit on the way home from work last night at nearly midnight and welling up at 8-mph. It will be a sad sad day and I haven't even had him that long....
Ok... I have precisely £40.71 left until the end of the month.:eek::eek: which includes a £3.50 voucher from Tesco and a 55p money back receipt. Shocking. I have been super naughty this month!
There are 20 days left until the end of the month and 1 meal out I need to account for. That meal out is this Wednesday and I intend to go there full of cheap porridge so I don't buy much and as it's later in the evening (1900) I can make excuses and leave around 2100 due to "an early start the next day"...
I have a multitude of food in my cupboards that I will be tackling and attempting to be imaginative with - this includes flour for bread.
I have planned ahead and have plenty of lentils cooked and ready to be formed into a loaf... also tubs of beans and rice have been cooked and in the freezer, I have lots of porridge oats I think ( just need expensive rice milk that will be dashed on as the cooking process will include water - UGH! )... I have some sausages and veggie meaty bits in the freezer, I also have soya chunks which I intend to get creative with (hot pot ??) and hald a ton of poppy seeds....?? These might go on my bread rolls...
I shall hereby refuse to buy any other foods unless I am in dire need. This means only vegan butter and oil - fruit will be canned ( sorry ) and I shall be reverting back to Jack Monroes blog (sunshine buns rule! ) and living on a prayer. Everyday Value cans of pineapple are 30p (although I just got three large ones for 89p each), beans on toast perhaps for dinner, frozen veg and rice with smoked black beans....
People have lived on less. Time to get imaginative!!!
HERE ME ROAR!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Hi everyone...thank you for your lovely messages a few days back when I wrote my update
and lots of love and hugs to those who need them (or whose loved ones need them).
I too love the turtle story and am excited that Mothernerd is setting the pace for September. I suspect (or even know by now) that you really are one of lifes just get in there and do-ers Mothernerd, so please do say if all the real world stuff gets too much at the same time. We don't want to drag you down! I would also like to learn how to do the quotes and links and things, so perhaps someone could point us to a bit of the website that says how, or write us some little instructions?
I think the idea of month by month is great, and maybe one way to do this when we set off upstream in September would be to have a post that holds nominations by month for the first six months or so? I would really love to run one but it would be nice to know when it was coming up so you could get ready in advance. Some of us might be better at different times of the year too - either because we're good at frugal living linked to that time of year or because of real world cycles. Then if anyone has to pull out perhaps the month after could move forward or something?
I am in hospital for a few more days now and then home, with no lodgers for a few weeks. Yippee. My last few days at work were very tough with devastating news for a lot of people. After a 2 year restructuring program lots of roles salaries are being downgraded, some by staggering amounts. I actually went up for doing more or less the same job as I have been doing. Hugely mixed feelings about this. Such empathy for those who are faced with difficult situations in about 2 years when the payment protection ends. A big sigh of relief that I can more easily afford basics - food etc - and might be able to sleep in my own bed more regularly in the future. Hard to celebrate amid such a lot of bad news for people I care dearly for, but also hard not to feel that for the four years I've been waiting for this restructure to work its way through I've been being underpaid compared to (almost exclusively male) colleagues. We wait to see if it actually goes through or not. So selfishly I'm glad to be away just for a few weeks to concentrate only on getting better and stronger, and to go back to work in September strong enough to help those who need it any way I can.
Today I am incredibly grateful for the NHS and the amazing staff who have truly cared for me as well as made me better. Their patience is really quite inspiring but so is the concept of free healthcare. My mum made some throwaway comment the other day about how the NHS hadn't existed when she was born, and I've just been a bit humbled since to think that so many people are trying so hard to make me better at no direct cost to me, and thank goodness, because DD and I couldn't afford to pay them to do so much. I know not everybody has great hospital or healthcare experiences, but I am currently feeling very grateful for how it is structured here.
Happy turtling folks0 -
Lilt - best wishes to your brother, hope he is on the mend. hugs all round.
Mothernerd - never been a turtle fan but looking forward to eating pizzas all Sept when I emerge from the sewer.
Paid bit off my credit cards today and chased quidco for 20 pounds they owe me. Am I the only person who gets paid weekly?
