So... today was a disaster. Financially.
    :embarasse

Spent a total of £45... however I paid for granny's afternoon tea, put £20 in the kitty and then £5 for the taxi home.
I think it was worth it though. We had a brilliant time and none of it went on the credit card. (pathetic excuse I know).
So much for making NSK proud this month.

Got one more week of work the on holiday until September. Heading up north with my parents for a week then down to OH's parents for a week. It's going to be great.
    :D

Planning a day out to London. Seeing as we have a budget, we are staying with OH's sister (we asked and she very kindly said yes) and getting the train in and out.
So, that is a Saturday in October (I am desperate to see the poppies at the Tower of London) then we are going to see all OH's friends on the Sunday. It will be awesome I think and we will attempt to do London on a budget. (might be too cold for ice creams though apple muncher).
    ;)

Swiss roll attempt tomorrow. If it goes well, I might post some pictures.
    :rotfl:

  • Good day, good morning and a very big hello to you all!

Tis early in the morning in NSK land and I am still up watching rubbish TV (Prometheus?) and sorting music on my iPod. I slept a LOT today and find myself not very tired so I thought I would make the most of it and do something that I keep "meaning" to get around to. So here I am..

    Confessions...

Only £40 of my food money remaineth...
    £12 on new pyjamas...
£27 at the local chinese supermarket - I always get carried away. Everyone needs new chopsticks now and then as well. Got me some cans of jackfruit (please google jackfruit pulled pork sandwich) and three cans for a friend so she owes me at least a fiver..
    £26 in Tescos.....

HOWEVER I have enough food for the week and possibly into next but there is a chance I might be screwed come the end of the month. Whoops!

£20 spent of my travel money on new music. I am slowly building up a proper collection - considering I have been listening to the same music for two years is an understatement and I am about to go mental. :rotfl:

So I am sat here realising that I don't actually have as much stuff to shop home as I thought I did. This means the clothing that I won't want to take home needs to be tackled next.

Considering I haven't bought new clothes for two years people are already used to me wearing the same rubbish over and over again so I might as well see if I have enough that can raise some money on eBay.... doubt it though.

So one more OT shift tomorrow with the last one on the 31st August. I was hoping for one more but there is a chance I won't get any more so will have to make do with the two. Which is not good but at this late stage in the game I am not worrying...

ON that happy note I will check in with you all tomorrow. The LL has an estate agent coming to photograph the house on Monday as he is going to rent out the entire house when I go but it means I need to tidy the joint.

Kitchen is done, it's too late to hoover now, and more things can get choved in my wardrobe...:p:p:p

So until tomorrow... SFD today for me and more than likely tomorrow - or do I mean today...

    Onwards.....

  • I think the idea of being Turtles is kinda cool. Also taking turns each month would be a good idea. It's very time consuming to do it entirely on your own and I could only do this as I have no dependants, and no real life perse...

So we need to unanimously come up with a name - keeping the turtle theme I think - that you can use at the beginning each month.. like the NSK at the beginning of the title in this month....

So how about Ninja Saving Turtles.....NST......

Ahhh I could get carried away with this.....will leave it with you to decide but a unanimous vote should be taken each month or a nomination for the next person to take over the following month so rules and regs can be decided.... Imagine the fun you could have between you all thinking of new rules.

I would request a few rules are kept...
    • DFD has to be decided on. Debt payments are then made each month FIRST in order to meet that date. You live on whats left.
    • Budgets for everything..
    • One random rule of your choice - like my "buy a coffee for a homeless person" or the "Pass it On"... make it personal..

So anyway - I was going to bed wasn't I......:rotfl:

    Morning all...

A bit like Kat I found myself awake at 06:30 on a Sunday and unable to sleep!!! Unheard of!!! So I've got up, done my chores and am sat with cup of tea catching up on posts...

Mothernerd - loving the turtletheme!!! We defo have to keep 'Ninja' in the title somewhere haha! It is a weird thought having a thread without the actual Ninja being here... but I'm sure she will drop in from time to time!

I would offer but I find I'm so tired with work and gym I just don't know I could committ to taking it on full time... even though I've been around forever!!! I will be shaking off my debt shackles too in a few months and not sure where that will leave me. I like the idea of a shared responsibility month by month. I guess the only hiccup could come if nobody steps forward one month to volunteer to run it.

So my weekend so far... Yesterday I had a really lovely but very spendy day! My £30 emergency fund has gone and I have £5 left of this week's budget (to see me through until Friday). Friends suggested a meal which was a bit pricey but amaaaaaaaazing food. Ah well - beans on toast for me this week!!!

Determined to make today a SFD and clock up a gym session. I've just not been at all this month! Slacker!!!

CEW - awesome news that you will be both debt and mortgage free in 2015 - congratulations!!!

    Catch you all later.

    Morning everyone!

    SFD 6/12
    Exercise 4/16
    Food £43.59/ £80 (till 15th August)
    Petrol £20/£20

Spend free day today after a very spendy day yesterday, however for tickets, a copy of the new book to be signed, train tickets and a meal in pizza express I only spent £11.10 (got to love birthday money and gift vouchers) so I didn't think that was too bad. As it was my only social outing for the month, I appreciated it more and had a really good time. However, both money and diet wise, today needs to be a much better day!

My two cents on after this month:

    - PLEASE can we be the ninja turtles? Please? Turtles are like my favourite animals and I will happily have whichever turtle I am assigned :)

    - I'm more than happy to take a turn running the challenge for a month, as like many other people these challenges have massively helped me to <almost> pay off my debt. So I'm happy to pay it back in that way.

    Have a great sunday everyone!
Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

Morning! I am up early on a sunday too...

I love the idea of sharing the challenges and one person doing it each month - it's very egalitarian and also means that someone isn't over burdened. I could commit to running it the odd month here and there with vim, but not all the time like Kat does! Ninja Saving Turtles is a good name too, and I agree we should keep the basic rules Kat has suggested. Not sure how we decide who is running each month tho? Volunteers? Nominations might be fun, but I know people have months where they would be happy to do it, and other months where they have a lot going on etc... what does everyone else think?

Planning on a NSD as we aren't gonna go anywhere or do anything - just jobs at home I think. I should get a swim / yoga in today. My knees are aching from my cycle and run yesterday.

Abundant when we had that 'sharing personal details' month a while back I seem to recall we had the same DFD and it looks like you are still going to make it! Well done you! As you can see mine has extended a bit (!!). I was just thinking last night that despite being boosted about where we are, we actually originally should have been DF in 2 months time - you must be feeling great about the prospect!

Right, off to finish me tea (well, hot water - it's cheaper) and then get back into bed for a read of my book..

    have a great day all

Tiptoes - well done for getting your CC under £10k, it must look so much better.

I am happy to take turns running the challenge too and think NSK's suggestion of rules to hang on to is good.

It is raining here and forecast says rain all day - boo. I will be running in it whatever it decides to do.

I find the rainy days can be bad for spending, I think if we had a better climate I would spend much less as I am just happy to walk, cycle, sit in the garden etc in the good weather but rain and cold make me want to shop.

    Morning Folks!

Loving the Ninja Saving Turtles as the new name. It can be used the same as Kat's challenges, Ninja Saving Turtles Cut it Right Back, Ninja Saving Turtles go Back to Basics etc etc.

I would gladly host a month or help out with ideas and stuff.

Had a quiet few days since the OH left. Just been back at work. Need to update my signature for August though. Should get that done today as I've got a day off.

Busy day planned though. I need to go to the dump, to my storage place and to tescimos. Then it's an afternoon of planning travel picnic food.

Remember I said that I was going to be MSE and pay for a trip to France (which is this coming Tuesday) with tescimos vouchers? Organised the vouchers last Wednesday after finding out that the move isn't going to be on Tuesday. Then found out you had to ring up to book and it was too late. So, took the details to work to do it the next day. Luckily though, or unluckily, I read the terms before calling Turns out you are supposed to book no less than two weeks before travel. So I am now stuck with the means to pay for a french trip for free and had to pay money for the one on Tuesday.

It's not a big issue, I am sure we will go again, or find a reason to go again. Maybe before Christmas, find one of those markets somewhere.

So the budgets have to be jiggled a little although the tickets were paid for from a separate fund so I'm not counting them for this month's challenge.

I'm still looking for some way to PIO, I will think of something I'm sure and reading on here there are loads of great ideas, well done folks.

  • Oh my goodness I dodged a serious deluge on the way to work - wore my waterproof troosers on the bike then got underneath an Esso garage just as it all came down - by the time I got my waterproof jacket on thought it had stopped. Ugh! twas very very hot and sunny at my house when I left and I was boiling - you live and learn....

Wonder what it will be like cycling tomorrow.... :):):)

So we like the Turtle theme - this is good. I will be letting you all think this through between you but I like a bit of "ninja" being kept in there.... and yes I will be dropping in now and then to derail the thread... :rotfl::rotfl:
