There was a kingdom of tall towers where the financiers lived. They lured wild turtles with gifts of loans and magic cards, making pets of them. When the hard times came the financiers cast off their pets and the turtles fell into the sewers, awash on a tide of debt.

A wise and beautiful Kat rescued the turtles and taught them her ninja ways.Month by month, in a firm but kindly manner, she taught the turtles to exercise their bodies till they could negotiate the sewer, to use their will to resist the temptations of the kingdom, to plan and prepare, save their pennies and to give to those less fortunate.

One day the wise Kat gathered the turtles to tell them she must leave them. She was to go on a quest to the Eastern lands. She had saved all her money (and a little honey) and sought new adventures and learning (and perhaps an owl to be her future companion).

At first the turtles were afraid but wise and beautiful Kat reminded them of the lessons she had taught them (Always pay your debt first). They could now keep afloat on the sewer water and could help each other, and those who joined them along the way, to swim through to the tide of freedom and the beach of tranquility known as debt free day.

So the brave little turtles set out, swimming against the tide of consumerism and became the

NSD for me (still trying to work out what I am going to do when I run out of food). Drawn up a plan of action for next week (no gardening or going up ladders). Still in limbo as not sure what I am allowed to do other than stop if it hurts - must try arthritis website this week. Compared to when I had my diabetes diagnosis, the support so far is rubbish especially as arthritis supposedly accounts for 1 in 4 doctor's appointments. Have had some help on here from the wonderful beanielou. Otherwise plodding on.

I would be willing to take a turn running the thread (note to self - find the bit that tells you how to quote and learn it).

Mothernerd I think you could have just written NSK's legacy for her. You managed to capture everything she has done for us all :T

SFD for me today it yesterday saw some small spends for toiletries and a little food top up shop.

Went to a builders merchant today to start pricing up the work on the rental property. I have already produced a budget but want to cut back on everything without cutting back in quality or the wow factor for selling. Can see that I can save a few £'s here and there so really pleased with that. I really am in my element when working to a budget and trying to source the best products for the lowest price :D

That's why getting into debt was so frustrating but unfortunately there are not many offers in the vet world

Got caught in a torrential downpour in just jeans and a t-shirt while trying to catch a goose with a hook stuck in it's neck. We didn't manage to get it so a team are going out with a couple of boats tomorrow. OH felt a bit guilty so treated me to a late lunch out. It was lovely particularly as it was unexpected :o

I'm also happy to run a thread for a month at some stage. I will need to check up on how to do it but I'm sure I will I have some spare time come mid Oct.

Mothernerd - loving the story!!! Awesome job!!!

TiptoesDB - Thank you! It's been a struggle and a sacrifice but it does feel pretty amazing... and on the other hand it feels like I'm wading through treacle. This month has 2 1/2 weeks to pay day which seems like forever away. I've lost my momentum and drive today and ended up spending £15 on food to cheer myself up! I think I just need to look ahead and see that light at the end of the tunnel really is approaching!!!

    Hugs everyone!

That is fantastic Mothernerd! Loving the idea of ninja savings turtles.

Well done on getting the CC done to under the £10k mark Tiptoes.

So not a spend free day yesterday as I was out at a food festival, however I budgeted for this and came home well fed, rather tipsy and over £11 under budget. I did some amount of walking yesterday so I'm counting that as an exercise session and I also got another exercise session in this morning.

Not quite sure if today will be spend free or not. I'm going out on a date tonight (arrgh!) and being an old fashioned kinda girl I think the man should pay on the first date. However I'm well aware that money is tight for everyone so I will offer to pay half.

Tomorrow is my weigh day so I'll see if I've lost any weight, got my fingers crossed!

    Exercise 5/16
    Food £36.66/£100
    Petrol £25/£50

mothernerd that is amazing, you are very good at creative writing.

I think having volunteers would be best, as I can imagine some months will be more convenient. Any chance you would volunteer to take on running the September challenge mothernerd?

Keep going abundant, just 2.5 weeks and you will be free of the debt shackles :) It is lovely to hear of your success.

Today was a spend day as I needed a present and a card for someone and some gf staples. I need to start clocking up the SFDs somehow, hoping for some over next weekend, as I am away and have prepaid for everything. I am also planning a trip to tescimos with my vouchers that I have been saving for over a year, and will buy some much needed toiletries.

Another exercise sessions done today. Got to the gym for just after 9 this morning and did a run on the treadmill and cycled on the bike.

Hope you have all managed to stay dry. I went to a bbq today and magically, it was dry the whole time! The rest of the day was a washout.

Mothernerd that is a beautifully apt story! I am one particular turtle who definitely feels a debt of gratitude to our saviour Kat for showing me the way to be debt free. I've followed in her footsteps with savings, on not such an epic scale mind you.

I'm with applemuncher on the turtles from finding nemo, rather than those weird CGI creatures eyeballing Megan Fox... ;) I was never allowed to watch Ninja Turtles when I was a kid. "Too violent" said my mum. I don't think she ever expected me to grow up to be a boxing and UFC obsessive :rotfl:

SO SORRY!!!! I disappeared. But I was with you all in spirit. My phoneline cut off on Monday. Followed on Thursday morning by the internet & TV. Cue me contacting the ever calamitous BT, to find that someone has advised them I have moved. And had my supply hooked up to some house elsewhere in the country. Neat trick, since I paid a years line rental up front in July & have everything on Direct Debit. Friday I was told it would be back on Saturday, by an imbecile who laughed at my repeated attempts to tell him I wasn't calling to cancel MY order, but to find out WHY it had been placed. He then cut me off. Tried again Saturday morning after finding a free from mobiles number. And got through to a very helpful Scottish lady who actually did as I asked but apologised and said she can't get my service back until Tuesday afternoon at the very best. I've hijacked a friends internet (from 2 floors away) for the night so it isn't very good, hence my check in and disappearing until Tuesday most likely...

This of course happens at the same time that a heart muscle eating virus causes my 40 year old brother to have a huge heart attack & end up in the hospital. He is ok, but has an infection of another kind so can't be moved for an angioplasty yet. :( worried for him. Viruses are hard to rid yourself of.

As for me. I stuck to the plan. I shopped today. I went out and did a few of the bulky bits last night, spoiling a SFD, but saving me further spinal injury. 10 days food, covering three people for most of the main meals due to Him's work schedule..... £36.83

I've got food to last until a week Tuesday minimum. And a meal plan to go with it, which I did prior to shopping. I will need 1/2 dozen eggs, a loaf of bread or 2 in the interim time. So maximum £3 spend on groceries.

    Totals:
    SFD: 5/12
    Exercise: 6/18
Groceries: £93.33/£130 (this was always a frighteningly ambitious task. £36 to last me 12 days on my next shop - I can do it!)
eBay items: 19/30 found. Nothing listed thanks to pap internet. Will do so next Sunday & prep it all before then.

Also Kat I think you will be proud if I pull this off this month. I've got £251.44 in my savings that has been put there this month. Plus £300 to the reg saver. By the end of August, I will have added £165.66 & approx £115 deposit back from Nursery. I earn less than £1k after tax a month at work. So putting away £832.10 is no mean feat. Today I am grateful for being money savvy enough to live so well within my means that a large portion of the tax credits etc that I am 'entitled to' goes into saving for my daughters future.

I think my legacy; the thing that I would like after I am gone, is for my daughter to know her way in life. I want her to have a cushion of money provided by me. I want her to have the knowledge to use it wisely, and for her to realise that there are easy ways of doing things, and hard ones, and sometimes the hard one is the best one. I want her to be able to show her children what I am hopefully showing her. Self respect, dignity and courage in the face of life. Not adversity, but just plain old boring, hard, stressful life. So that she can see the good things for what they are. And take great pleasure in small victories. I would like to leave this earth knowing that I have made a decent human being out of the one truly incredible thing I have been entrusted with on this earth.

Enough jibberjabber. I am off to start a meal plan following the one for next week. Talk to you guys when normal service resumes Tuesday! SFDx2 to add then, I promise!

    Hello everyone!

Hope you've all enjoyed your weekends!

Had quite a sad day yesterday saying goodbye to my old rust bucket car...I took her on one last drive to the seaside, then took her off to the scrapyard. Thought I was fine until I handed the key over and walked out...and then I cried. She was my first car and I'd had her years, despite all of the times we broke down we had a lot of adventures together. Never ever thought I would get sentimental over an inanimate object...oh dear!

I LOVE this talk of Ninja Saving Turtles- what an amazing legacy NSK! and mothernerd- What a superb background story- you should write short stories as a profession!! I don't mind helping out on the occasional thread management duty.

So I have managed a SFD today, hooray! Bringing my total to 4.
I acquired a little bit of money through scraping my lil car yesterday, this is going back into my current car's fund. Had to purchase a couple of drinks to take to a party yesterday eve so yesterday was not a SFD.

I managed to walk about a mile and a half on Saturday, but at a fairly leisurely pace so I shant try to claim this as exercise as this was not very exerting for me. I'll be back at my own house, after house sitting for the last month so will be able to start my bi-weekly jogs with 2 of my girlfriend's which should keep me more motivated!

Oooo btw I have acquired my PIO (sort of, I forgot to ask them to pass the good deed on, as I would have stopped to help without thinking twice anyway). Whilst I was at the seaside with my little broom broom, I was parked outside a pub. I saw the landlady having trouble trying to fix up her banner for the pub (she was fighting against a strong wind), which had been knocked down by some revellers the night before. So I went over and gave her a hand, getting the post back in and tying it down. :)
