Thank you all again for your condolences - Calling14, mothernerd, karmachilovething, and kat - it is really kind of you all. My Grandad's name was Terry - he was a lovely man, who will be much missed.
Mothernerd - I hope getting the diagnosis helps you to get the treatment you need - you are anything but lazy and have obviously been in real pain. My mum has had injections for arthritis in her feet and has found it has really helped her have less pain and walk more.
Stewby - I'm very impressed you are so organised with your Christmas presents!
Fmess and Dolly - sounds like you both had a bit of a hard day yesterday, hugs! Hope you're feeling better today.
Crazy_lady - fantastic news on the credit card! it's so inspiring to hear.
Had my first spend free day of the month yesterday, and barring emergencies should be today as well. A lot of people have been talking about decluttering - it seems really closely connected to getting rid of the debt. I've been working at it too over the last few days, two big boxes ready to go to the charity shop (may have to enlist OH's help to carry it!).

If repeatedly banging the keyboard constitutes a tantrum, then I am married to a tantrum expert!! The keyboard for the tv is now held together by sellotape and dips in the middle. You used to have to press the space bar rather firmly, now you have to find the 'sweet spot' to get it to work.

Have just had a call from our bank as government regs now say they have to contact you when you have approx 5yrs to go on your mortgage. And here was me blithely thinking we had 9 more years, and being pleased that we'll do it in less. To suddenly have just 58 months is a bit of a surprise...! Discussion with dh required...

crazy lady you are one awesome cookie, and so is your dd letting out your own bedroom and sharing with her, or using the sofa. Respect! :T

Right, off to do some sewing, and ultimately - hopefully - raise some pennies! Dd + friend are painting their nails, so all is quiet.

    Hey all

I feel like I have been a bit 'absent' from August so far, generally and not just on here. I had my 5/6 counselling session last night, one I organised to help me manage after my dad died and I said to the counsellor that I feel like I am living this past week or so with the volume turned down on life... not sure why?

Anyway, reading the posts this morning has been lovely - so much bravery and so much support out there - well done guys.

Today should be a SFD - the first this month so far. And I am hoping to get a run and a cycle in. Working from home today as I have a big report to write and just need to be by myself (another non social butterfly here). So, am interspersing chunks of report writing with catching up on here, putting the washing out, cleaning the bathroom etc. DH is out tonight, so I have all day and all evening to please myself and potter - bliss. I'll be scratching at the window by the time he comes home though, ready for his company!

    Right, better crack on...

love and hugs to all you strong people out there - keep on truckin' x

Tiptoes hope you start to feel a bit more like your normal self, big hugs

Thanks MagicCat, I'm just being a mardy grump.

I am feeling very annoyed about August in general as my budgets are way out on what I want them to be and I'm almost at the mentality of 'its ruined already, another £** won't matter', but I need to avoid this!

    So the positives for today, so far are;
1.) I have just switched energy supplier as my fixed term deal is ending with the current supplier, apparently we'll be £80+ better off a year.
2.) I have realised that if I hadn't had the work done on the house this month, I could have paid £800 off my debt. Therefore in my mind, this is a success because usually this would mean that my debt would have increased by £800 because I wouldn't have had the money set aside to pay for the work to be done :) (anyone else understand my logic, or am I clutching at straws?)

Its a sunny/drizzly day here so far, and its just gone really dark. Oh has been awake and gone back to sleep several times. Think I'm going to go to the gym - its just chucked it down, definitely off to the gym.

Fmess I know exactly what you mean!!
    :D

That was my reasoning for having my savings pots. So that I won't have bought all my xmas pressies on my credit card and have therefore stopped myself getting further into debt.
In conclusion (reminds me of school, I could have paid £300 off my credit card but then I would have just added it back on again. So, I know exactly what you mean.
    :)

Today I dragged out my old personal loan stuff and discovered I actually have it for 5 years and not 3 years. There is no financial benefit to paying off quicker as they have added all the interest at the beginning. So pay off date for that is 2017.
    :(

Went and bought another xmas pressie today. 30% off one of the bits and half price for the other bit... so hooray for that!!
    :j

Today I am grateful for my mum (who I took out for lunch as a bday treat), our xmas fund (for helping me budget better), my photographs (for helping me remember fun times) and for my OH (although he is making me pull my hair our with his lack of decision making skills on his family's xmas pressies).

    Big hugs to everyone.

    Hi gang

Ive been well and truly missing in action of late, not even had the chance to read your posts! I dropped the ball around page 7 so Im looking forward to my walk into town a bit later where Ill have a nice sit down with a Waitrose latte and go through them one by one :T

Ive had a few stressful days at work and am pleased to say that I now have a few rest days to look forward to after finishing night shifts this morning :T

I am up to 3 SFDs so far and aiming for a 4th today! This will definitely be achieved if I leave my wallet at home, however, Ive noticed from experience that the times Ive gone into town with no money, I have missed out on a few cracking stickered bargains! Best to avoid the discount section altogether and preserve a SFD but I cant resist a snoop while there :p

Spend day yesterday on fuel and a small food shop which should tide me over the next couple of weeks...

    Right, signing off for today

    Over n oot

phoenix, under the NSK rules, yellow stickered items don't ruin a SFD - they are positively encouraged, so long as that is all you buy. If you can resist the other stuff, then take your money with you!

Just have 5 mins to do a quick check in before I have to pick up DS2 from a party - I swear my kids have a much better social life than I do! Just completed a run with DS1, and another no spend day today, so now have 3/12 SFD and 4/18 exercise sessions. Still in budget for food but not sure that'll be the case by the end of the month :-( .....

Pokes my head in sheepishly...sorry I've not been around folks but, well, the OH came to visit and so I've not been near my laptop.

Had a great couple of days but now I'm exhausted...three more days at work, one off, then one in then eleven off...can't come quickly enough to be honest!

Will post fuller tomorrow when I'm not falling asleep, x

  • Checking in with another NSD, really hoping to make the (small) amount of money in my bank account last until payday next week. Also managed another lunchtime walk, and it was amazing how much more refreshed I felt this afternoon; a habit to maintain after August I think!
