I didn't say you did, was merely pointing out that the price difference where I am is negligible so Asda aren't always much cheaper everywhere. I was balancing your point with my experience as you made a sweeping statement that everyone should get their fuel from Asda and not shop at Tesco.Edwood_Woodwood wrote: »Don't you ever pass other fuel stations, like ever?
Yes, like every day. A Shell, BP and Total petrol station are on my route home or nearby. However these are at least 2 to 3p a litre more expensive than Tesco. There is also a Sainsburys which 99% of the time is priced the same as Tesco. So even without the petrol promotion, Tesco is still better for me to fill up at. I have no misguided loyalty to Tesco (I shop there as it's convenient for me as I mentioned), it's mearly the cheapest place for me to fill my car with fuel! If, for example, Shell were to drop their price lower than Tesco, then I would fill up there.Edwood_Woodwood wrote: »Why would I want to pay 9p per litre more just cos I live by that station??
You wouldn't, and I don't see where anyone has suggested you do that? You fill up at Asda as it is cheapest for you, I do likewise at Tesco.0 -
Got offered 2p litre off my fuel other day at tesco
The assistant didnt know whether this would accumulate
I havent clue what she on about so left it
Getting the gist that if I spend loads in store during the month I can get a big discount off my fuel
Yesterday I put £80 fuel in hoping for a big discount being near the end of the month
Woman says although I accumulated 17p per litre disc this month I cant have it because I still *have to spend* my 2p litre disc from last month
(Text removed by MSE Forum Team)
If they were discount tickets I would throw the 2p one in the bin
She said "you cant add them together"
I dont want to add them together - I want youto forget all about 2p discount I earned and dont want and give me my 17 discount
So I am actually being penalised because I spent some money with Tesco during April and instead of being rewarded I am being penalised with a 2p discount
Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Obviously ill have to write to tesco directly to get my 17p discount.

You do have to stick to going for the full discount in the right month.
I have 8p left this month (which isn't worth the aggro of bothering with) as I used the other 20p at the beginning of July.
But next week, August, I can use the whole 20p already accumulated.
It is a bit unnecessarily complicated, but that's the rules.
We try to just get the most by filling up the tank in the first week of each month, for the maximum 20p per litre off.

Fair enough.
However, I would just point out, at least in my area, when you balance up foodstuff in Tesco being more expensive compared to Asda as well as the fuel too then even with Tesco's fuel discount I would still be better off by buying groceries and fuel at Asda.
Now that's money saving.
Also, I don't have the unpleasant experience of actually being in a Tesco to boot.:)
From what I gather Asda are cheaper on a national level, for both foodstuffs and fuel, not just local to me, compared to other supermarkets so I do find your experience curious.0 -
I'm pretty sure the only reason you do have to use the earlier discount first and cannot combine them - which indeed would be much better - is very simple - it's a computerised automatic thing applied at the pumps and the chances are the !!!!!! who specified the system for some third party, probably offshore, company to code didn't think it through and produce an idiot proof spec.
I've seen plenty of offshore coding - it will do exactly what was asked but never more. If this was coded in house the programmer involved would have got on the phone to the analyst and asked about the stuff he'd failed to specify.

I thought I'd try to check my assertion. Nothing concrete about this small scheme but they have offshored their main web development so the odds are my guess above is correct - http://www.computerweekly.com/news/2240206944/Tescocom-uses-agile-development-offshore-to-roll-out-internationally0 -
Oh Lordy, another Jethro rant... So much anger for so small a saving. The title of this thread is very suggestive.
I don't like Tesco. I shop at Sainsbury's. Here endeth my Tesco trials. Happy days!0 -

Be gentle with him. He's obviously not very bright.

Sadly it seems the MSE forum team removed the possibly more entertaining parts of the initial post before I saw the thread
Anyhow nothing wrong with a good rant. I suspect it's the main reason many read this board at all.0 -
These Tesco haters just don't like to see British success they prefer to support companies taken over by the Yanks or the German invaders.
Of course Tesco isn't perfect it has made mistakes and need to continually evaluate. But most of these Tesco hating posts don't seem to have enough complaint to warrant the hate and venom expressed to this company.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -

Or more likely, the !!!!!! who specified the system knew exactly what he was doing and made sure he got exactly what he asked for. A system that looks great in the adverts and gets people spending, but not everyone cashing in on the discounts.
Love em or hate em, Tesco usually know what they are doing with big offers like this. And whenever a "customer" says "It would be better (for me) if they had done it a different way" you can bet your life it's better for tesco the way it is.0 -

Asda is so low in quality, that I wouldn't use it!
Plus, with the price matches that they now all offer, I wouldn't think there us much difference in price.
