I work for tesco pfs so thought i would try and explain one of the points the op has made. The person may not have know if your fuel save would accumulate because until a couple of weeks ago we had only the amount available appear on our till and no dates that they expired. If we do not know what date they have to be used by we cannot tell you if they will build up.

Staff have no override and the tills are set up to give you the oldest amount first. As far as staff have been told where i work head office have no way of clearing it either. We have also been told that if a customer forgets to scan their clubcard while shopping they have no way of adding your fuel save on at a later date.

Im afraid my advice would have been to either fill a fuel can and use the 2p on that or use the 2p rather than loose it altogether and save the 16p (come off in multiples of two) for your next visit which would have given you a month to run your fuel down to take full advantage of it.

Also this is still only a trial which is due to end in september (this may have changed and not been fed back to us yet) and they are continuing to try and follow customers suggestions for improvement.

If you need further help with understanding terms and conditions they will be on their website or ask the staff in the pfs. Hope this helped a little :-)

I believe it will be continuing as my mum has be told that to pay for it they will be closing a lot of the petrol stations an hour earlier on a Sunday to make the money back as they pay some staff time and a half on Sunday's so this will get the most amount back.

My mum is not happy at losing an 4 hours employment because of this new scheme :(

So what does it actually cost?
£50 spend = 2p discount. I'd guess the average fillup is 50litres or maybe less which is £1. They wouldn't be splashing huge banners advertising 2% off would they. I'd say it pays for itself by encouraging loyalty.

With a profit fall enough to lead to the old ceo being binned and a new one now in place I suspect there will be a lot of changes to plenty of their loyalty schemes.

This fuel scheme is better than the old printed ticket method which lead to chaos on the forecourt as almost nobody was using the far quicker pay-at-pump option.
  • Just an extra though. Your fuel save is written at the bottom of your receipts (which in our tesco is being highlighted to customers so they know how much your next discount will be) so you will be able to check what you can use.

My personal thoughts on this is its one of the better ideas they have had. Its all done through clubcard so it means that it totals up your spending whenever you use it. Even if its only a packet of crisps still use your clubcard because while you dont get a point it all goes towards your discount. I myself never spend £50 in one go so under the old system i never got money off but now i get a small discount.

Must admit it has caused a lot more people screaming at me. The favourites from this week are the woman who left her card in the car and after me telling her to go get it or she couldnt use her fuel save refused. Then after she had paid came back in asking to be refunded. Again we have no over ride and she was told a few times to get it before she paid so she shouted at me calling me all sorts of lovely names. Next favourite is the man who took in his receipt but no clubcard. Again been called lovely names.

Also to the people who tell me they hate tesco and are going to asda. My husband works there so i get a discount there too! Its funny to see their reaction to that one. :D

I've got better advice tesco worker eminemfan001.

Just don't shop at Tesco with their gimmicky pennies off a litre.

Most people would probably save a couple of quid at most with regard to how long the promotion lasts and how many miles they drive.

It's just a headache and not worth the hassle-just fuel up at ASDA which is always cheaper anyway-5p per litre in my area!

I hate everything to do with Tesco and they are not a patch on what they were about 10 year ago.

Sorry but Asda is far inferior to any of the other supermarkets. It's a thoroughly miserable experience shopping there and inevitably you end up going to Tesco/Waitrose/Sainsburys on the way home to buy everything Asda didn't have!

Oh dear, looks like the OP lost out on another 2p/litre saving

Petrol and diesel prices cut by 2p per litre nationwide from tomorrow @ Tesco

I think deserves to be in the 'Bad customers or bad customer service thread' too!!

Surprised JethroUk hasn't noticed the pence per litre off by shown on the receipt!
And besides, Tesco do enough TV advertising about it - for people to have an idea what it's all about (or an incentive to find out).

They won't fix it because itisn't broken.

    It is broken for sure

    Dont need to read nuthin

I am smart enough to know that You simply can NOT penalise customers for spending money (they can stuff the 2p discount where the sun dont shine)

And for this reason alone - if Tesco are still using this system this time next year I will buy you a brand new car of your choice

    Watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

They are not penalising, the 2p/per ltr is used first or it runs out of date i.e. 31st July, when the next amount is then available! And only having 2p shows you didn't spend much in June, whereas in July it's been a lot more.

The system was trialled first of all in the Norwich area last year (curious no queries then) followed by Wales late last year, rolled out Nationwide middle of January.

I've no idea, whether it'll be still around this time next year, I suspect it will be - with maybe a few minor adjustments. I start looking for what car I'd like.

Whether the scheme is there or not next year is irrelevant. It is working as advertised so there is nothing to fix.

I have a 2p credit expiring 31/7 and a bit bigger one expiring 31/8 myself. I'll be using the 2p before the end of the month and the slightly bigger one sometime in August. I really don't see what the supposed problem is. If I desperately needed to use the bigger discount I'd top up with a gallon first and get a full tank either soon after or even on the same visit as there are pay-at-pump machines.
