Piglet to Gazelle - My weight loss journey

  • I prefer to bring my lunch in most days too, working in Central London can be expensive if you buy lunch everyday (cheapest £6 a day). My friends are always commenting that my lunches look very tasty and healthy but they are still intent on eating their sandwich, chocolate and crisps nearly every lunch time. It doesn't help that we have vending machines on every floor fully stocked with sweets and crisps. I see some people using them multiple times a day! It is shocking!

  • Someone at work bought me a bottle of white wine as a thank you so me and my husband drank a glass each while I prepared dinner. (he supervised ;)). I was tempted to save it for the weekend but I really fancied it! That and I don't want to be running on Sunday with alcohol in my system.

If you were going to a class such as metafit or similar, youd be doing anything from 15-30 mins HIIT, longer possibly if it were a freestyle class (I know there's some debate about whether anything longer than 30 mins is truly HIIT, but I'll refer to it as such).

You arent deconditioned and even if you were, if you came to my class, you would do the entire class but with options.

HIIT is always going to be torture and the fitter you get, the worse you are going to feel as you are fitter which means you work harder, you feel burst at the end.

I dont see any reason right now why you need to be doing 5-7 mins HIIT.

It all goes back to how much you want to change your shape and your life.

Im personal training someone just now who used to be very fit and due to life getting in the way, the fitness fell by the wayside. They are doing at least 30 mins of HIIT in one session (with short rest and water breaks), sometimes 45.

The problem with working out on your own, is that its too easy to go, well Ive done a few mins and thats enough so I'll increase it next time.

Im a big believer in people getting off the couch and doing something. Im just not convinced going by what youve posted about how much exercise you can do, walking, running, that 7 mins is your max HIIT just now.

You really do need to have a think about how much you want these results. Im the same weight as you are right now, 11 stones 8, but I am comfortably in a size 14 and almost a 12 and that is because of the training I do.

I do a bootcamp 3 times a week, 2 hour long sessions and one 45 min session. I lift weights 3 times a week. I walk everywhere and I do occasional spin classes.

My fitness was far worse than yours is right now when I started doing HIIT classes, I could do 2 burpees in a minute tops, Im now at 31 and the reason Im at 31 is because Im made to do lots of them in classes. Not 10, not 20, not 50, but sometimes 100 plus in a night. And even the people who come in who are 5-6 stones heavier than I am, they do what they can.

My concern is, if you dont start convincing yourself that you can do this, at least exercise wise, you are going to hit one massive plateau and in a years time you'll be posting very little changes.

You need to bite the bullet and do it now.
  • Hi purpleshoes
It's funny as I had a similar conversation with myself on Thursday! I've done a few physical challenges in the past and the upcoming London Marathon reminded me of what my body could do. (I have done maggies night hike 20miles, moonwalk 26.2miles & leukaemia 10mile). So I searched YouTube for some workouts and found a 5 day challenge done by fitness blender. It's a combination of HIIT, yoga, Pilates, strength training and cardio working different muscle groups each day allowing for recovery. I am doing day three tomorrow and am feeling a little sore but I will push myself through it. I am loving the feeling and I find myself standing straighter and prouder. A real confidence boost!!

I'm not sure the calorie burn on the garmin is accurate. There are days I've done hardly any steps and days I've done five times as much and there's been little difference in the figures.
