Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I am reading with great interest as although it hasn't been diagnosed I have a suspicion I may have an underactive thyroid and I'm also trying to lose weight by doing low carb!

I was 13st7lbs in my mid 20's and got down to about 10st by doing low carb, then I did jujitsu for a couple of years and put muscle weight on but lost inches, firmed up and felt the healthiest and fittest I'd ever been!! Unfortunately I stopped Martial Arts due to a back injury and over the last year or 2 my weight has crept back up to 12st :(

I'm starting a new job in London in 4 weeks so I'm going to make a conscious effort to start eating low carb and exercising again (I've got 30 day shred too) :) because I feel so tired and sluggish and I want a clean slate, fresh start, get fit and flippin' healthy!!!!

I shall keep reading your motivating posts! X

FT have you tried using myfitnesspal to track you calories? We use it and it highlights foods we previously thought were ok as not so much?

Thanks, yes I do use this app. I find it invaluable especially for working out my net carbs intake.

Have you been to your GP to get tested for an underactive thyroid? I've heard about a few GPs that don't want to do the test.

I first started noticing symptoms when I turned 18 and I thought when I got myself down the GP that they were going to tell me I was diabetic. (A lot of the symptoms are similar) I had never heard of a thyroid before so was a bit confused as to what would happen. I started ballooning in size from a size 8-10 up to 16-18 and I got really depressed. I started to binge eat more and hide what I had eaten (I had always done this as a kid but never had to worry about size so didn't think it was a issue at the time). It was a vicious cycle of eating, feeling sorry for myself, eating more, feeling disgusted with myself, eating even more etc etc....
Then one day I got fed up of letting it defeat me and since then I have started to take my life back.

I have been on various 'diets' both healthy and unhealthy but I finally now feel like I am eating a normal persons diet it's very liberating. Wish someone had clued me in ten years ago.

I know that I will always struggle with my weight as it can so easily creep back on which is frustrating but as long as I keep positive and motivated with a daily routine I know I will get back to my original healthy weight and maintain.

It's been great getting all the support and advice from MSErs like yourself, please keep me posted on how you get on.

  • Ok I'm going to make some confession over the past few days I haven't just fallen off the wagon but done a spectacular dive with triple somersault and landed square on my face in the middle of the road. Luckily I have a rope attached to my waist and I am determined to drag my self back to the wagon.
I knew October was going to be tough but here goes....
