How would the UK fare without Scotland?

The SNP will survive a NO vote perfectly well unless the Labour party get a successful competence transplant from somewhere unexpected in the political arena
The Scots will carry on with their present practice of electing an SNP Holyrood government who'll happily spend the English subsidy all the while peddling the myth that 'Westminster ' is the bogeyman for every Scot and come the general election they'll prop up the Labour vote in an attempt to keep the Tories out.
Perfidious Alba.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Huge portion of their customers are from Scotland. I think it's going to hurt them but not as much as expected.0

When was the first? The gerrymandered Home Rule vote in the 70s where the dead counted as NO voters, and most of the voters voted YES?
And were the SNP behind that? Or was that another Labour fiasco?

And I'm fascinated by the assumption that the SNP are already in racist animosity so they can get further and further into it. Please give examples if you can.
He won't. He'll just start on the posters instead as being 'Anti English'.. There will be no examples. Just watch..It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

AIUI, it was the SNP's price for maintaining a failing Labour Government in power. The SNP will survive a NO vote perfectly well unless the Labour party get a successful competence transplant from somewhere unexpected in the political arena.
Time will tell. The idea that the SNP are magically more able to rule using the same machinery of Government than the Tories or Labour is risible. We will almost certainly get to see the SNP's reaction to a No vote.
I was talking to a Scottish friend today who is genuinely concerned about the aftermath of all of this, about the animosity towards Scotland that the SNP is stirring up amongst the English. My feeling is that culture changes very slowly so I hope that there won't be a longer term impact. I hope I'm right. And I'm fascinated by the assumption that the SNP are already in racist animosity so they can get further and further into it. Please give examples if you can.
I think you misinterpreted my words. I meant that upon a no vote, the SNP will become more & more racist.
However, now you come to mention it, wasn't it an SNP student leader who called Cameron an English tw*t?
This bloke seems to think that the SNP is racist:

As does Mr Farage:

As does this Scottish MSP:

As does Billy Connolly:

This SNP leaflet, quoting the film Trainspotting, looks pretty racist to me:

Are you talking about Scotland and the rest of the UK or Australia and the Queen? Works either way. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Given the apparent ineptitude towards such matters as declining oil and and gas revenues, currency and how to fund it's share of the deficit. Surely the question that needs to be asked in the coming weeks by the electorate is:
How would the Scotland fare without the UK?
As no answers appear to be forthcoming.0 -
Oh here's an answer then. Investment galore recommended... and Why ? Westminster lying ?Investors Chronicle (part of the Financial Times group), 25 July 2014:“In the 12 months since we recommended EnQuest (ENQ) as a speculative buy option, the share price of the North Sea independent has oscillated within a relatively narrow range (-11p/+16p) either side of the current share price of 132p. The relative stability (or stagnation) of the share price – depending on your point of view – is partly attributable to repeat production delays on the Alma/Galia project.
But oil from the 34m barrel development is now imminent, which will help to shore-up near-term sentiment, particularly if output is cranked-up in fairly short order. However, even beyond the immediate quest to bump-up EnQuest’s daily production volumes by another 13,000 barrels, the driller’s strategic focus on exploiting maturing assets and underdeveloped fields in the UK North Sea places it in an ideal position to benefit from likely regulatory reforms, and we recommend buying in anticipation.
We think that Westminster has been deliberately downplaying the potential of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) ahead of September’s referendum on Scottish independence.
The Department of Energy has certainly been far more subdued than it was at the time of the February publication of Sir Ian Wood’s preliminary findings on the future of offshore oil & gas in the UK.
According to the report, the UK economy could generate £200bn over the next 20 years through the recovery of only 3-4bn barrels of North Sea oil and gas. Many analysts believe that the potential is much greater.“
Chew on that for a bit. Then try your best to disclaim it. Looking forward...
Yes and on this article too... and not me as a poster here. Investors Chronicle part of the Financial Times. Are they lying with this ?It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Hopefully the above contains enough examples for you.
Not really. Farage, A scottish MSP and a few film quotes. Biased to the max. You must really think we're all thick north of the border... and unable to make our own minds up unless a 'celeb' or a politician is involved. And most of the articles linked to from 2012 ! We're two years on from there !!!!
You must think we're all ( Scots residents ) somewhat lacking in the intelligence department. The very thought that Farage is making a marked 'difference' or has any bearing whatsoever in the Scottish referendum campaign.. and have actually quoted anything to do with him to back your logic up ? Makes you out of touch... completely. You live in Australia, no getting around that... It's not your fault but trying to set yourself up as an 'expert' on Scottish politics ? Then doing a 'Farage' like he means something here...just REALLY shows it. And how little you know.
You just can't possibly. You live just too far away and have no idea of what's really going on in Scotland. And neither you or Farage have a vote either..
The Independence vote is for a new system. Not for punishing anyone for where they were born ( like Farage). Get over it. English people in Scotland have as much of a say as I do Sept 2014. And that's a good thing AND welcomed <--- And keep reminding yourself of that paragraph over and over again as it's true. And more in touch with what's going on right now in Scotland than you'll ever be for the next 7 weeks or so. Whatever the result. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Actually it was an SNP leaflet quoting a film. I'm not sure how you managed to miss that.0
