Though I do sometimes thing my Rottie x GSD would certainly qualify as a Rotten Shepherd after some of the things she's rolled in!

I'm always asked if one of mine is a cockapoo, no he's just a plain old boring poodle! Apparently people don't recognise them without the famous haircut anymore. I meet far more poodle crosses these days than actual poodles, you have to worry about where all the breeding b!tches are that are producing these first cross 'doodles' and 'poos'.

I'm a bit surprised the OP hasn't come across this before though, its been a trend in my area for at least 5 years, probably more.

(The cockatoos I meet do tend to have lovely temperaments, but my word I don't envy you having to deal with that coat!)

I see someone with a standard poodle when Im walking mine and he has had a traditional poodle cut just because he was sick of being asked if she was a labradoodle! I do love poodles and I would never have even considered a cockapoo until mine was desperate for a home. Lovely charachter though and yes his coat is awful to care for so I shave it off ;)

The only problem is he has mild hip dysplasia so I asked the previous owners to inform the breeder who told them it was one of those things and not genetic so she has carried on breeding.
I guess while the demand is there and people are willing to pay stupid prices it will keep happening :(

I have a rescue mongrel and I proudly call her a mongrel. She's a terrier cross, so maybe I should call her a Border Russell? ;) I don't actually know for sure what she is, but I really don't care because she's cute as a button albeit very nutty :)

Ah, but just a thought, if you changed the name to the other way around, it would sound better, as it sounds more like a film star or a comedian ! lol

Sadly people can make money off so called 'designer dogs' because they tell the story that they are healthier than pedigree dogs, when in actual fact, they are just as likely to suffer inherited problems from both parent breeds!

Sad really :( I guess I could call my Whippet x Saluki and 'Whippuki' :p

I just bought a maltishu. I really liked the look and traits of both dogs so I decided to get a cross. Yes it might cost as much as a pure breed but I got exactly what I wanted. I got so see mum and dad and they are both kc registered. She is the prettiest thing and in my eyes worth every penny. I also hopefully wont have to worry too much about the genetic issues, I know its no gurantee. I bought her because I loved the way she looked, why do people buy pure breeds?

I would argue why do people buy dogs at all when literally thousands of perfectly healthy good natured dogs are put down every year in the UK !!

I guess it comes down to personal choice. I would like a puppy that I can train to behave the way I would like it to behave. I have other pets so I also have to think about them and ensure it will be a good fit with my current household. I also was looking for a specif type of dog, which I am not likely to get from a rescue and seeing as I am going to spend the next 15 - 20 years looking after it I would like something I am happy with. Each to their own, that is just my take on it. I also dont like rescues but that is a different story
