Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker Savvy Shopper!
For a 6 year old they can pretty much sleep on anything. Go for a mattress rated "soft" or "medium/soft". Nothing too firm as they're designed for heavy adults and won't provide any "give" to a child.

I was very pleased to see this thread - We need a new mattress, and I was wondering if anyone could give an opinion on this one?

    http://www.mattressonline.co.uk/Product/Bodyshape-Pocket-1000-Mattress-P1326

1000 pocket springs, but no detail as to how thick the 'generous' foam is.

The reviews describe it as more of a foam than sprung bed, so I'm assuming fairly thick.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • Just had a look - you'll notice it's "reflex foam" which isn't the same as memory or latex foam. So it isn't really that "generous" even if there's lots of it if you see what I mean. It's not an expensive material and doesn't have any special properties.
Keep in mind that the whole mattress is only 20cm thick to start with. So if it does have lots of foam the springs are gonna be quite small. I'm not sure what your budget is but you've chosen a pretty cheap mattress and so that's exacly what you're going to get. However it's far better to get a cheap pocket sprung mattress than an open coil. You just may find you don't get quite the support you'd get on another one, and it may not last as long as a more expensive one. This depends on your personal needs of course. If it's only sitting in a spare room you don't need to worry about it being long lasting as it won't get much use.

When it comes to brand, there are many available. Lucid Latex foam mattress, Dream Foam Ultimate Dreams, Sleep EZ USA Roma latex are few among the top brands. Dreams mattresses might be good for some, but not for everyone. When searched online, I found many negative reviews for Dreams.
  • Sorry to hijack a semi old thread, just don't always see the point of starting a new one when there's a relevant thread already going!

So, I have found a company online that seem to have good prices and what not. Haven't bought from them before and because they are online business and a bed is a pretty big purchase to me so it's always good to get some opinions first before taking the plunge. Hopefully MSE will help me :)
So can anyone give their opinions on best price beds the company and also hypnos beds?

  • Bumping this up for advice or reviews on the Deep Sleep Silk 1000 ?

Just seen this and looks like a good price

    Thanks
  • ripoffbritain1 - Depends what you're looking for in a mattress. It looks ok and should do a good job. Don't expect it to last 10 years, but you probably won't find better for the same price.

LairyMary - I've had no dealings with bestpricebeds but Hypnos are a legit manufacturer. You pay a higher price but get higher quality. Whether or not that higher quality translates into a better night's sleep is individual preference.

Hypnos do a google search before buying .
Lots of duff information regarding mattress .
Orthopaedic just a sales name no more and no less .

Deep Sleep Silk 1000 is the sort i would be looking at well sprung with a small layer of foam or latex .
  • Looking to buy a new mattress in the sales but not really sure where to start, there are so many offers.

Am needing a new Ottoman bed too if anyone has seen any good offers.

:shocked:Bumping up the thread as I'm going cross eyed with the bewildering range of mattresses!!

I've sort of decided either on the Hip Hop wooden frame (king size) from bensons

Or this one from Wayfairer: Ennerdale bed frame (king size)

Now I just need a mattress! Though any thoughts on the above would be great.
I'm generally a side sleeper, but occasionally sleep on my back. The one I currently have (sealy posturepedic ultra?) is 11 years old, very firm and I generally wake up with a dead arm, aching hip and knee.

I don't have too much to spend, particularly as I'm buying the frame too. I've looked at the silk 1000, but to be honest, I've no idea what's good and what's bad. I don't want it to last me a lifetime, just to be comfortable for the next five years (longer if possible!).

    I'd really appreciate any help.

    Thank :-)
