OH has no clue for my birthday present!

Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
It's my birthday next week (virtual cake for all!)

I've been working since I was 16 so if I've wanted something I've always bought it so I'm now in the position where I have pretty much everything I need. (Nobody is buying me a house!)

OH hasn't got a clue what to get me.

I think my problem is that I want a surprise but that isn't how the world works!

Yes, it's like talking to a revolving door! (a lovely revolving door, I might add)

  • he sounds like me! i know what to get, but it never pans out that way!

I'd suggest making it easy for him.

It doesnt mean he doesnt care, nor that he cant be bothered, just cant do it. There's a phobia of getting a 'safe' gift, instead of a wrong gift

Send him links to three/four things you would really like, and leave him to it.

You get what you want, he gets to feel like he 'picked' it.

    Job done.

I couldn't pick out my OH's perfect pair of golf shoes/range finder/clubs without his help - why do you expect him to be able to pick the 'perfect' present for you?

This year (I think we are the same age) I actually just gave my boyfriend a list - and I've never been a Christmas list person.

It was basically a few bigger things, so he could choose one and a couple of general smaller bits - worked a treat! It's probably quite daunting for a man to buy any sort of jewellery but maybe show him some existing pieces you like and maybe he can find something to match.

Good luck and happy birthday :)

I don't expect the perfect present at all. I don't expect him to do anything. I'm talking about what would be nice for him to do.

I'll be 22. He wants me to make a list on some clothes websites so he can pick but I've told him I don't want any clothes because I buy them myself (regardless of cost)

Haha I show him all the time. My uncle is a jeweller so I am always showing him things saying "I like this one" "I like that one"

I think I'm getting annoyed because of other reasons though.
My mum always insists on booking my birthday off so she did, but then had to cancel it to use it for something else but then I found out she's booked the next day off to help my sister move house.(understandable reason, of course)
Not seen my dad since xmas so not really expecting anything there.
OH and I always agree to book each other's birthdays off in January. I booked his off but he didn't book mine. We don't see each other a lot as it is (and we live together!) so I suppose I'm more sad that I won't get to spend a full day with him once again :(

I think the majority of men are just rubbish at this kind of thing. One year my dad bought my mum a teal towel for her birthday because it had an irish flag on it - he's irish, she isnt. After that she just asked for money and then she'd buy herself what she wanted :p
I think you should just be direct and tell him what you want :)

Everyone has got great advice. Thanks a lot.

I'm not very good at saying "I want this" to him because I don't want him (or anyone) to think I'm being a brat.

He set a precedent last year by being romantic with roses and champagne (I'm talking a posh bunch of roses from a fancy florist and two bottles of Moet) so I know he has potential to do something amazing without me knowing about it!

Aww I don't think he would see it as you being a brat - if I'm honest, I'm also really rubbish at buying things for people and usually just give generic tat like bath sets - which are boring and impersonal - so I'd rather be told I want x or at least thrown a few different options - ♥
Like someone said you can send him links of a few things you like...that way he can choose and you will still be surprised because you don't know which one you will get ^_^

If you've been together 3 years, I'm sure he knows you're not a brat :)

But last year was your 21st so he was legally obliged to spoil :rotfl:
