Yes the shape of our roof and chimney stacks mean that 7 panels is all it can take - a shame as we are south facing:cool:0

Is there no east or west rooves you could utilise?2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0

No because they're shaded by the rest:cool:
So not worth the investment in your opinion tunnel?0 -
I'm not saying its not worth the investment, I'm saying its not worth the investment at the ridiculous price you've been quoted.
Even a 1.75kWp system would suffice to cover most peoples baseload(I'm assuming it was 1.75), especially with a south facing roof. For that size you should realistically be looking at £2.5-£3k.
There are higher wattage panels too like benQ's that are 327W instead of 250 which would be a smidge under 2.3kWp system, even then the price you've been quoted is still too much
How can your other rooves be shaded by the rest? I'm struggling to envisage it2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
Could you not lower or remove the chimney if it is disused? I know someone on here had that done as part of the work for not a huge amount extra.
Unfortunately an inevitable side effect of solar panel prices dropping is that they have become a smaller part of the total cost, meaning smaller systems have become proportionally more expensive compared with larger ones.
Just had a look at some advertised prices for BenQ 330 W systems which may be the way to go for a very limited roof space. For example CTS Renewables have 7 panels giving 2.3 kW for £5075, but 12 panels giving 4 kW for £6695, so you're paying £1.69 per watt for the larger system but £2.20 per watt for the smaller one. Obviously the higher efficiency panels are more expensive so you may need to crunch some numbers on whether they are worth it.Solar install June 2022, Bath

Thanks for your replies tunnel and ed
I hadn't thought about higher powered panels so will look in to that
We use both chimneys and the main roof has apexes coming out at different angles which shade the rest - it's a 1930's cottage style - sorry I can't explain it any better than that!0 -
