Hugs to you ETO, so sorry for your loss

Well done everyone who's declared, every single total is truly fab :j

2 x £2 coins in my new recycled coffee tin and some odd pence in the terramundi.

DH took me into the city centre today so I could buy some toys, took them straight into the shopping centre as the giving tree is already up, was so depressed as I walked away, I had 7 presents to give but as I said to DH, I didn't even make a dent in the amount of names on those branches :( its so sad to think there are that many children just in my area that are on hard times or so ill they are going to be in hospital this christmas :( DH did say to me that though I didn't make a dent, I did make a difference, so i'll just take pleasure in the thought that for a few children I got to be a real live father christmas :o
I have 1 more gift that i've saved for DD as her Gran is taking her in a couple of weeks to pick names for Grans donations and DD likes to have a present to give too.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and wishes. It means a lot, as I was a little anxious about coming back. You're all so lovely.

I'm hoping being back will be a bit of a distraction for me at this time. And will also help me to save a bit more.

Its a christmas tree run by our local radio station, it has gift tags with the names of underpriviledged and sick children in our area. You go and pick a name (or two or three . . ) and you buy them a christmas present. You then tie the gift tag to the handles of the carrier bag and put it in the big box by the tree. The radio station 'angels' come and empty the box and refill the tree with more names regularly, then on the 20th December the collection is closed and the presents are taken to the local hospital/childrens home/given to the parents to be given to the child you chose :)

Our tree has 4 charities they work with and I know one is our local hospital and the other is a hospice, I assumed the other two were for families on hard times. I have to do the tree every year as I just can't bear the thought of a child waking up to no visit from father christmas.

    Good evening potters!

    ETO, so sorry xxxxxx

Well, I have the plasterer here tomorrow and am going to be very busy for the rest of this week, so thought I would pop on and declare my total.

    I can't actually believe the amount I am going to type.......here goes......wait for it!.......£555.69 :eek::eek::eek:

To say I am over the moon is an understatement. We have had a pretty crappy year and I could have so easily stopped potting, but I didn't, bloody glad I carried on potting!!!!

Thank you so much for running this thread Sue.......hope you all get fantastic totals.

    Take care :)

    Emily xx

P.S Sue, I have updated my siggy xx

  • I love the idea of a giving tree Jakes-Mum, I've never heard of it before. Mind you, I'm such a softy, I would be heart broken if some of the names didn't get a gift by the 20th December. I have been contemplating our fortune more and more recently, each time I step out of the shower and grab a warm towel to dry, I thank my lucky stars that I have running water here and the ability to pay for heat, every time it rains I think of those on the streets, and now, I am thinking of the unknown names on a tree.......
Oh my!!!On a potting front - £5.20 for the pot!!!
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

This is why I was so sad as I walked away :o I do think that each childs name is more than likely on the tree more than once and possibly a bit of swapping goes on behind the scenes (as tbh not everyone is going to buy an age appropriate gift for the child they chose!) but just the thought that 'maybe' some childrens names wont get picked upsets me greatly :(

I did say to DH that if I ever win a significant amount of money, I am going to the tree and picking 50 names off the branches :o

That's such a wonderful idea. You are a very caring person. Our local radio station used to do something similar but it stopped a year or two ago. Our local churches do the shoe box appeal for Africa but it is a shame to think there are children in Britain and other countries who are in the same situation. It does break your heart to think of these little ones getting nothing at xmas. Well done you for caring so much. If everyone who could afford it gave just one gift then no child would have to go without.
