I've counted up my pot and there's 369.32 to bank , so it has been very worthwhile an I would like to join again for next year, I shall be starting from tomorrow

I'm delighted to hear you know saving with us is vital, Anna, and many congratulations to you for getting such a GREAT amount!!!!! :j:T:j You saved so well and had a wonderful reward!! :DBTW, as the membership list had to be altered early in the year could you please alter the number on your siggy to read 114 for me? Thanks, and you don't need to rejoin, I transfer you all across. :grinheart

Well done, 32b3, more in to help cover the bottom. ;)

I had 7 presents to give but as I said to DH, I didn't even make a dent in the amount of names on those branches :( its so sad to think there are that many children just in my area that are on hard times or so ill they are going to be in hospital this christmas :( DH did say to me that though I didn't make a dent, I did make a difference, so i'll just take pleasure in the thought that for a few children I got to be a real live father christmas :o

Your DH is so very right with his words, jakes-mum. Hark at all of us here, we do or (would do all do) the same type of thing to help kiddies, whatever the circumstances. Remember Richard & Judy doing the same thing a few years ago? I gave every time, our DD too. We always feel it's only a drop in the ocean and there mightn't be many giving, but if truth were told, I bet they make darn sure NO kiddie goes without at Christmas!! :A
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and wishes. It means a lot, as I was a little anxious about coming back. You're all so lovely.

I'm hoping being back will be a bit of a distraction for me at this time. And will also help me to save a bit more.

I'm delighted you were brave enough to come back to us, ETO, after all, we all help each other at such times. :) It will be so lovely to help make just a small difference to you - though you have made a HUGE difference to me this last couple of weeks on the Reminder Threads and I don't know what I'd have done without you! :kisses3: Huge {{{hugs}}} to you all. Love, Sue xxx

Well, I have the plasterer here tomorrow and am going to be very busy for the rest of this week, so thought I would pop on and declare my total.

    I can't actually believe the amount I am going to type.......here goes......wait for it!.......£555.69 :eek::eek::eek:

To say I am over the moon is an understatement. We have had a pretty crappy year and I could have so easily stopped potting, but I didn't, bloody glad I carried on potting!!!!

Oh my word! Emily you have done just amazingly with all you've saved!!!!!!! :j:T:j I half wondered if you'd not been able to save lately as we've not seen you for ages...and now look at that amount!!!! yay.gifBe so VERY proud of yourself, Emily! :D

Its a christmas tree run by our local radio station, it has gift tags with the names of underpriviledged and sick children in our area. You go and pick a name (or two or three . . ) and you buy them a christmas present. You then tie the gift tag to the handles of the carrier bag and put it in the big box by the tree. The radio station 'angels' come and empty the box and refill the tree with more names regularly, then on the 20th December the collection is closed and the presents are taken to the local hospital/childrens home/given to the parents to be given to the child you chose :)

Our tree has 4 charities they work with and I know one is our local hospital and the other is a hospice, I assumed the other two were for families on hard times. I have to do the tree every year as I just can't bear the thought of a child waking up to no visit from father christmas.

That's such a good idea. It's very sad though that it has to be done. How do you find out about them? I will try google to see if we have one in central London

Edit, can't find one in central London, but found one in Brent cross shopping centre, so it looks like I am heading north!!

I love the idea of a giving tree Jakes-Mum, I've never heard of it before. Mind you, I'm such a softy, I would be heart broken if some of the names didn't get a gift by the 20th December.

  • Okay, so I'm nervous about this because it's nowhere near my Target and it's not as good as I wanted....but it's been a hard year with finances and trying to finish College....and unfortunately I have had to raid my Pot more than once to be able to survive and pay for Bills...

Anyway....It's not great....but it's SOMETHING and allowed me to buy some Christmas Presents (yes, the money is already spent!) and the next bit of saving over the rest of this year will allow me to buy the rest....My total is: £40.95....

Still, I managed to save it so I'm happy about that at least....

I hope I'm still welcome on this Thread even though I didn't get what I aimed for....at least I got something....and I hope that this coming Year will be MUCH better....

*Hugs* to you ETO....My thoughts are with you xXx
  • I've added another £1.10 to my total...
Had such a good night out at a New Found Glory gig (it's a punk / pop-punk band) though I am feeling it this morning whilst getting ready to go to the hospital to get new hearing aid moulds done.

Another 50p potted this morning! :j :j Possibly my final potting of the season... (no money in my purse, so no money to pot!)

I bought some presents from an online shop last night, knowing that I'll have enough (fingers crossed) in the pot to cover the credit card (points and all!). I just couldn't wait any longer!!! I've spent far less than I thought, so the rest of the pot will go towards my work Christmas do!

Saving is saving, and you did it. Well done. The amount doesn't really matter, it's the fact that you did it that counts xx

Awww I'm just going to hug you all now :D :grouphug:

Yay! 32b3 I'm glad you found a tree :j if I travel the other way we have a sleigh that people pop a present in, but I like the tree as it feels a bit more personal rather than just an ARK (act of random kindness)

Helen, you did amazingly with your savings, don't be disheartened, a target is just a goal to aim for and matters not a jot if you reach it or not. Your pot served its purpose and was there when you needed it and you had money at the end so you can't do better than that! :T

Ahh sue your right, I'm just a big old softy when it comes to kids and Christmas. Our city is pretty good though, our tree has been running for years and is very popular, I think there would be anarchy if the radio station tried to stop it!

No pennies yet as I'm still in bed but we shall see what the day brings :D. Must pay DS's rugby trip AND cadets camp today  that child costs me a fortune! Oh and must sort out another payment to DD's school trip (haven't told her yet she might be away on my birthday :o that won't go down well if she is, I'll have to have no birthday cake till she's back' :rotfl:

Me too, Lynne, I had a job to sleep last night so look out tonight!!! :(

Hi Helen and please don't worry! Very well done on your savings!!!!! :j:T:j You still did well and as you rightly say, it's still money you saved and you should be proud of that! Please, why not save a fair amount putting it all in a Holding Pot (see the 1st post in the 1st Page) make a note of what you're saving each week. Then when you know you have a fair bit - leave it there for times when you're hard up. Save the rest in your Sealed Pot!

BTW Targets are used to help push us further with saving, but if we don't reach them - it doesn't matter!!! BTW, you will ALWAYS be welcome here!! ;) ...though whatever made you think differently I've no idea!....! :wall:

Ahh, I see now why you call yourself as you do, DeafLeopard, sorry to hear that, but thank goodness there are hearing aids. My DH has them as he suffers from premature deafness due to operations on both ears to remove the mastoids and link bones. All the best with yours and at least you can still enjoy good times. :grinheart

It's good to know you'll have enough to also enjoy yourself, Vicky, that's how it should be!!

You're welcome, Emily, it's just so good to see you. I see when viewing your siggy, you're also doing VERY well overall, wonderful work!!! :D

Oi jakes-mum, I don't see any money you've saved on your post!! Slightly off track I think (more like off the beaten b***er! *rolls eyes*), though you're on track in a way I s'pose I'll forgive you. :p

    Sue x
PLEASE folks, do ensure your correct Nos are on your siggies!! Many of you have the ones from the old list which makes things more difficult for me. :(
