seriously?? are you having lobster and caviar for supper and running 10 hot baths a day while leaving all the lights on while out??? how can £150 not be covering his side.....dont mean to come accross in a rude way but i am genuinely curious here how a 17 year old how i imagine is rarely there anyway can rack up so much.....my guess is food is the main factor here but again 17 year old i imagine he eats out with his friends quite a bit?

i would say at £150 your doing very well.....

Oh for God's sake! Seriously, is this all you can do? Sit there posting crap?! What a stupid, stupid, stupid post! I can only assume you're trolling now. Go away! I can't be arsed with you anymore!

I agree. Less than £50 a week for rent, electric, landline phone, sky tv, water rates, council tax, heating, laundry service, tv licence, home contents insurance, occasional lifts, (once a week,) and food (including meals cooked.)

    Try getting THAT anywhere else!

why stop there? you might as well bleed them dry tell them you want their whole check and toss them a few quid for a soda at work and thats it....tell them you had to feed them and change their diapers all them years.....

why have children if you dont want to help them succeed? as i mentioned in a previous post i understand if you have a 30 year old living in the house but this is just crazy if they are 18 or even early 20's imo....everyone is entitled to theirs and i apologize i am coming across this way but its shocking that most in here seem to be treating their kids as a cash cow.....you mention tv license, council tax etc i mean what will you do when they move out?? still tell them they have to pay it, cuz you would still have to pay it even if they were there, it seems insane to think your going to charge your KIDS stuff that you would pay whether they were there or not......

Er. When they move out, they're not costing you anything...

I agree with shwam to be honest. £150 must surely cover 1/3 (assuming he's an only child) of the household bills (not including mortgage)!

seriously? so will the sky bill go down when my kids leave the nest? and the tv license that will go away when they are gone too?? everyone is different and in different situations as you mentioned, but its crazy for someone to post things that you would have to pay for if they were there or if they were moved out....they wont be using that much water and i cant imagine the electrics will sky rocket with them, and you would still have to run the heat in the winter whether they were there or not...so seems crazy.....

Yeah, but, elsewhere you don't have to live with your parents. That's priceless! ;)

I always paid roughly what I cost to my parents. They knew I was responsible to save for a deposit and didn't want me to pay for what was their decided cost of living. The way they looked at if a cost would remain with me gone then it wasn't for me to contribute. When redundancy loomed they refused more.

Your TV licence and Sky are costs you'd have anyway.

My cousin pays £200 a month and so does his "fiancee". The rent on his parents place is £480. He came to the conclusion that he was subsidisng everyone else. He soon deleted his Facebook post when he was told to grow up and welcome to the real world.

It's not a question of paying any extra household costs (although those might well be over £150 a month) but of paying your share of them. It basically comes down to a question of fairness and treating your adult children as equals.
