Yes, they did that with my eldest, so he rarely saw the friend whose form he was in anyhow because his friend was in a higher ability group. Most subjects were set according to literacy, numeracy and science ability.
Anyway, I'm glad your son is feeling happier and making plans to get to know the other boy better
I'm hoping the same will happen with my youngest whose class is being mixed up for year 5 for the first time ever, and they've started mixing the classes a bit already to get them used to it. All of his current friends are in the catchment for the other high school, and today he seemed happier about the idea of going to his catchment school (because there's no guarantee he can get into the other one even if we apply) because of a boy in the other class who will be in his class for the first time.I used to be an axolotl0 -
I can relate to the OP concerns.
My daughter left primary school on June 2012.. The same day as her 11th birthday. She was the youngest in her class. She went to a small all girl primary school.
The secondary school she went too was massive... 12 first year forms.. With approx 24 in each class. It was also mixed with boys and girls.
The classes were divided by academic ability.. And dispute being the youngest in the entire year my daughter got a place in the top grammar class. There was one other girl from her primary school in her class.. But she was never a close friend to my daughter.
Fast forward 10 months and here she is just finishing up her first year at secondary school... Again that day fell on her birthday... She is now 12... And throughout the year she has developed a close circle of friends with her new class mates.0 -
I haven't read the whole thread, but the schools mix up the kids for a reason, so that they can make new friends.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440
