I am hoping no news is good news with Spirit - I'm sure it's not easy to try to convince people that charging up your phone and getting online to read a forum is important .... and it's probably been snatched and switched for bedrest.

I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say that you've been in our thoughts at least hourly all day.

Yep, all day I've been thinking about you Spirit and wondering when you'll feel up to visitors.

I'll have to sneak the kiwi down to you for cheer.

I didn't know all wards banned flowers. I was going to send some, now I won't. Drat.

Maggie your sweet peas are scrumptious.

I've never had such a grim year for them in my life.. One measly germination. Not something I have ever had a problem with before. Its these silly late germinations. Early works for me every time.

I've finished skimming through my annotated results chapters. They are now festooned with coloured sticky tabs, and I have run out of the aforementioned tabs (more of an incentive to get some of the comments dealt with so I release some tabs!).

In general, nothing too horrendous. The main PITA is going to be re-analysing data properly so I can pool it (due to time and effort constraints last time round I showed one set data and mentioned number of replicates. Joint second in size of tasks are rearranging the chapters (was a suggestion), and re-writing the introductions to each chapter (what was there has largely been moved to the main introduction chapter).

I'm taking a day's annual leave tomorrow, but still heading into the office... going to try and earn the right to remove some of those sticky tabs.

    Eating the educating thingy.

It seems different to the others ( which I only dipped into) some how

( I am really surprised with the level of pastoral care tbh)

Er, eating is obviously meant to be watching. ;)

I'm watching Who Do You Think You Are on BBC1 as there's no BBC1+1 ... and I have the option to watch the East End thing afterwards on the +1 channel.

Most people don't start off with the skills to do this stuff. They acquire them by doing the job, making the mistakes, correcting them, etc. I am sure that you'd make a great 'little man' if you set your mind to it. At £20 per hour for the work, it would pay you to spend £100 on some decent basic tools and doing the work yourself. At th end of it you'd still have the tools for next time.

I suspect that actually most people start off by doing the job with somebody who knows how - dad, friend, etc. Then they pick up the basics. After that, if they discover that they have some aptitude and inclination in that direction, they try picking up further skills on their own. Only after they've done quite a lot either with assistance or in a situation where it doesn't really matter how good the job is, can they go on and start charging people for their skills.

PN is still at the stage where she posts in triumph when she's assembled flat pack furniture without left over pieces and without the end product being wonky. She can tell that her curtain pole fixings aren't up to the job, but she probably doesn't know that that's because it's a newbuild house with flimsy stud walls, or what kind of special fixings would be necessary to overcome the difficulty. I think that's quite a long way from being able to show up to somebody else's house to get paid for fixing whatever they've decided is too hard for them to do themselves.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Am recording it. Will be watching it at about the time it's on the +1 thing.

I was watching the Educating the East End programme - I think they've tried to show a different sort of school culture this time round, with a predominantly female senior team. Will be interested to see how the rest of the series goes, but I enjoyed tonight's episode.

Sounds like something I should save on the ipad for the flight home. What channel please? and what is the proper title?
