New genius plan .... I can strap a torch to my head .... and get my vacuum extension pipe. Should be able to get that into the hole and surrounding the stick; move the pipe to the middle of the hole and put the lasso round the pipe.... I know the stick is over 1' long, so lift the pole up 1' and slowly drop the lasso down the outside of the pipe (as a guide) until it's beyond the end of the pipe.... then attempt to tighten the lasso and bring out the pipe and string at the same time .....

I'll get the parts together in the coming hour or so.... lasso needs to be made of a slippy type of string.

How is the lasso going to stick to the pipe and not slide off it as you draw it in?

I'd stick with your first two sentences, get the vacuum extension pipe over the stick.....then switch the vacuum on.

Stick a pair of old tights over the end of the vacuum extension if you are afraid of a ton of soil being hoovered up!

Actually I don't think you need bother much about the stick, just put the rotary holder over it and it should push down into the earth.

We once hammered a rotary line holder into the ground, we were impressed that we managed to get it almost flush with the ground, until we put in the rotary line...and found it was at an angle of about 20 degrees off the vertical. Enough of an angle that when clothes were on the line the weight of the clothes, together with the angle stopped it rotating.

Wasn't much use for swingball either!

Will be back later.....things gone a bit manic in FC Towers since I last posted (in a good way).

To cheer you up Spirit, if you feel like watching a bit of Chinese Elvis, here's a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMoBvOPRa70&feature=youtu.be it's only 6.50m but he banters throughout :)

Yes, it was in my lounge (had a small do for OH's 50th and his mothers 70th last WE) and she loves Elvis (though this guy is a tongue in cheek one). He has a bizarre website but did me the 'do' for a favour www.chineseelvis.com as he had a spare couple of hours.

The stick is rough, it's a bit of tree bark that dropped off. The pipe is just a guide to ensure the lasso is round the stick.... it simply guides the string down far enough until I can tighten it (past the end of the pipe, so the lasso is round the stick, not the pipe.

Vacuum's not strong enough for that .... but it would be a good plan if it were.

Yes, it's important to get those things in straight. I was pleased when I moved in that I knew there was a hole .... I was very surprised in the last 24 hours when I realise the previous owners had actually bothered to extract the stake. I know they must have had one as the sides of the hole are perfect/compact.

Poor Spirit ... she'd LOVE to be poking about in a 2" wide and 27" deep hole for a stick right now ..... rather than where she is.

.... offer's open if you're up for it and can get over here.

Again: no need to reply :)

So, what did you do about the holder in the ground? Quite hard to get it out?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    We got a man in.

He hammered the existing holder below ground level, bought a new holder and put that in straight a foot or two away from the old position.

No, the stick in the hole is an easy problem to solve. Cheers.

I'm building a huge list of oddjobs for an oddjob man .... got a good day's work on the list already. There's all sorts. The drains/drainpipe, the gates/locks/bolts, the curtain pole, lots of venetians, the washing machine/tiles, clearing the gutters/putting in something to stop them refilling, shelves, coat hooks ..... so I'll find an oddjob man at some point....

    Miss communication.

We were looking for an odd job man out here, needed some pictures put on the wall.

I tried the lifeguard. He appears to only speak Russian, my actions couldn't have been very good, he thought I wanted him to teach me how to dive.

Second was the buildings' guard/ porter, he speaks Hebrew, he thought I wanted heavy things carried up from the basement.

Eventually I found someone who I would guess is the maintenance man for the site next door, he doesn't appear to speak but grunts instead. Not sure whether he thought I wanted walls knocking down or whether I was enticing him back to my place, but he saw what was required, reappeared with tool box, put on gloves to protect the pictures and did the job.

Today I see him and he has learnt 2 words "more work?"

(PN, I appreciate it is easier to find men when they are all round the place than go out searching).
