I'm not at all sure what has got into me. I have been quite careful because of my blood glucose levels ..at home mostly eat hm food, so I have to get back on track.

It is like self harm with snacks.

Call it "just checking" in case there was nothing wrong in the first place and you're miraculously "fixed" :)

When I fancy carby stuff its often related to hormones in the euphemistic sense. . I notice since RP became diabetic sugary junk is craved all the time. :(.

My PM box has 51 messages in it and I've not got round to deleting any, so can't send any until I do .... limit's 50... but if you get reported for abuse and a post is removed, Admin can override that to send you a PM to tell you your post was abusive and it's been deleted :)

Will the MSE Badger be bestowing you with a badge for that? :j

Who Do You Think You Are is on BBC1 at 9pm.
Tonight it's Tamzin Outhwaite - looks at her Italian past and uncovers a rags-to-riches tale of her Great-grandfather.

I'm not bothered who the person is, it's usually really interesting following the journeys. I think I've only seen one dull one so far.

I'm not quite "The hoarder next door", but am very close to it. I've been going to counselling for a number of years since my parents died, 7 years ago now. Need to go back to my counsellor, as we really really need for me to get out last of stuff from old home so we can sell it. Ashamed to say it's all coming back to new home, where there are now stacks of boxes. <roll eyes smilie>

So glad that you know your DD needs help. Even with help from a good Counsellor she may find it hard. I think the way my Mum just got rid of my stuff, without ever asking me, hasn't helped my hoarding tendencies.

If you were in Liverpool I could recommend a wonderful Counsellor, who works with young people. She could do it via Skype if that were OK. But best for face to face work on this stuff really.

Big hugs to you Lydia, so hope you get help for your DD sorted out ASAP.

    :grouphug:

Hugs maggie. It must be very tough for you. :grouphug:

My solicitor is in the process of arranging for DD to be treated by Stelios himself (with the defendants paying). I insisted I wanted her treated by someone with experience of treating hoarders, and I have carried my point. :) His private practice involves both adults and adolescents, and although 11 (which is what she'll be in a week or two) is a bit younger than he usually sees, he's read the report on her and is confident that she's somebody that he can help.

On the show he explains that most serious hoarders have had signficant loss experiences when young. This is clearly true of DD. If it's true of you too, then have an extra hug: :grouphug:

Although I had worked out already that forcing her to get rid of stuff would be traumatising for her, so I wasn't doing much of it, the show did a lot to teach me that the goal is to resolve her trauma so that she no longer needs to hold onto everything, not to drag her kicking and screaming through a painful process of having it wrested from her. It's not just Stelios who doesn't try to make anybody get rid of anything they're not ready to let go; it's those two blonde women that do the decluttering on the show too. I am now pursuing a policy of letting her keep whatever she feels she needs to, but only in one room of the house, and hoping that the therapy will result in a breakthrough. She's managed to watch one episode with me, and was much encouraged by the gentle, affirming and non-coercive attitude of all three of the main characters. (Not that we'll be having the blonde women. They're based in Kent and would be way too expensive to get all the way over here. Some of my friends have volunteered for that role, so I've told them to watch the show to see how gently it's to be done. :))

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Maggie, please try not to be ashamed. The shame won't help you. Please watch some of those Hoarder Next Door programmes again and make a point of noticing how un-shaming they all are. Having a problem with clutter isn't a failure - it's something that happens to people who've been hurt, and you don't need to be ashamed of having been hurt.

Honestly, listen to me! I should do what I say myself. Here I am preaching to you about not letting the shame get to you when I myself am ashamed of the state I have allowed my house to descend into through being too burnt out to exert the effort required to deal with it.

Pn? Lydia ( or too near beginning of term? ( though of course you both know the place) NDG? I'll try email details of how far if date is free for you so you can make a reasonable decision before committing. :)
