Go mortgage free. Do the to let rooms first and your work space.

Let the students pay for the refurb. ( or mortgage for the same) presuming you have no structural necessity to attend to.

I have an oven. I decided that if I'm opening up my home to someone else, there should be an oven. And it's getting cold, so more likely to want oven food.

I decided on a mini oven to put off any decisions/ commitments to proper cookers. I am cooking my first meal in it (frozen pizza, height of culinary excellence). It looks kind of sad (strong bedsit vibes). Nevermind.

...you can't just do a salad/goats cheese on toast type of dinner when you have to provide students a 'proper' meal.

    ...
Yes, there are "food rules" too about what you have to provide - and it's not posh nosh .... from memory it was:

Breakfast: list of stuff they had to have available and hot drinks
Lunch: Two sandwiches, or rolls, fruit, snack bar/cake, sweet/chocolate item, cold drink.
    Evening Meal: Hot, two courses.

Also, age/location depending, you also have to collect them on the start day from the bus (when it turns up), drop them off/wait in the morning for the bus to collect them, be there to receive them when the evening bus returns (on one day two ran away in St Ives, delaying the coach returning by two hours). Then, if they're teens, you can't let them out in the evening - you have to chat to them in English.

Some can, and will, get up to all sorts of nonsense. I was told at the start that the French teens I was expecting weren't "used to English style shopping". They'd been used to going into shops and being served - so, in the past, they'd had several instances where kids would go into the shops and "shoplift" as they didn't understand the system of serving yourself, then taking it to a counter to pay.

And some just manage to escape and the police have to be called to scour the town looking for them.

I had my second interview yesterday. The where to sit challenge wasn't quite as extreme this time as the table was rectangular and only big enough for 8.

I did ok I think - he said there was only 2 people left in the process so I stand a reasonable chance but I won't be too upset if I don't get it.

Being interviewed by banks appears to be much easier than trying to get a public sector job where you have to spend hours talking about meaningless "competencies" and "cultural characteristics". Both interviews were just 45 minute interactive discussions...

The ideal budget is smaller :)
    I didn't like the Swoon look ... not comfy/lounging/sleeping sofas :)

I received the material swatches from that flatpack outfit today .... opened the envelope ... not many blues, lots of "natural"... all looked a bit scratchy - and I've consigned it to the "look at later" pile.

I made some of ours with eyelets, never again, putting in the rings did my fingers in. .

I once made a pair of eyelet curtains for DDs room in very heavy fabric that she chose.

The method looked simple the reality was bit trickier. It was alabour of love.

After about 10 months she went off them and bought a pair of ready mades from Next!

Could you get enough of these different swatches, pile them up, and sit on that?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
