Yes, there are "food rules" too about what you have to provide - and it's not posh nosh .... from memory it was:

Breakfast: list of stuff they had to have available and hot drinks
Lunch: Two sandwiches, or rolls, fruit, snack bar/cake, sweet/chocolate item, cold drink.
    Evening Meal: Hot, two courses.

Also, age/location depending, you also have to collect them on the start day from the bus (when it turns up), drop them off/wait in the morning for the bus to collect them, be there to receive them when the evening bus returns (on one day two ran away in St Ives, delaying the coach returning by two hours). Then, if they're teens, you can't let them out in the evening - you have to chat to them in English.

Some can, and will, get up to all sorts of nonsense. I was told at the start that the French teens I was expecting weren't "used to English style shopping". They'd been used to going into shops and being served - so, in the past, they'd had several instances where kids would go into the shops and "shoplift" as they didn't understand the system of serving yourself, then taking it to a counter to pay.

And some just manage to escape and the police have to be called to scour the town looking for them.

The packed lunches and food provided of reckon are part of what has lead for decades to our reputation for food standards in UK and why despite really having excellent food some still seem dubious. Probably by trying to stick to this list.

Up norf there are a lot of places making cheap sofas.
    e.g. two for £260 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Dylan-all-over-Jumbo-Fabric-3-and-2-seater-Sofa-Suite-in-Silver-/121164766059?pt=UK_Home_Garden_LivingRoom_Sofas_UK&hash=item1c35fb9b6b (+£65 delivery).

I was thinking "teal/blue" to go with the curtains... but the reality is that blue sofas are a bit too bold/blocky to look right.... which leaves me with cream (would easily mark) or 'silver'/light grey.

Go with the colour you like. Doesn't have to match the curtains.

Do you like yellow? That would be like sitting on a sand dune, not as easy to mark as cream/ silver.

Teal could be broken up with a couple of cushions with big fish on them. Or ice creams. Or just different shades of colour, or more easily, and practically, a lovely comfortable blanket in a complementary colour that looks beautiful, colour and texture, folded on the back, but is soft and snuggly for you on a cold day , and can fly through the washing machine when ever needed.

I'm just skimming through ebay pictures... when I see something I like, I'll know it ... not against yellow, but there's a bit of a shortage of it .... in my budget, you don't choose, you pick the least offensive that presents itself.

Or in my budget, you try not to choose anything and make do with whatever rubbish stuff you already have.

I am without a computer this evening, so I've been tidying. God this place is a tip. Also went outside to water the plants and it's awful out there too. Ended up spraying some of the many weeds in the patio (they are huge again). Tonight I would like to be living in a house that is 'done'. With someone else to help with things.

My eye has also been running today. I think my mood might have darkened to match it :(

Today I tried to make head/tail of the blinds situation, but their website's confusing. Shame as the blinds priced up, for size, at £50/patio door window - v the £115/window the shop that measures/fits them quoted me yesterday.

Shop is overpriced..... but I can't DIY it ..... I need a "little man" to measure and fit, but their sale prices end soon..... but I need the blinds.... might just tout the window sizes round a few more shops to see if I can better the price and suck up the inflated price just for the "Perfect Fit" (brand name) solution.... and find a "little man" to fit regular blinds that I source.

Not sure what you're looking for, but roller blinds can be cut down to fit the window. (Well, the John Lewis ones can, I found the Dunelm ones were cheap and plasticky and broke immediately)

My other thing is Ikea wood venetian blinds and get my 'little man' to cut straight through each side (when it's pulled together) to make it fit in the window. As long as the strings are safely away from where he cuts, it works well. That saves a lot of money, but I have really had enough of dusting the blighters.

NPs with a science bent. Have you ever been to any Cafe Scientifique meetings? Sound like a great idea. I've come across one that's accessible to several NPs so thought I'd mention in case anyone is interested, or had been to their meets elsewhere, or would be interested in something near them. The one I'm aware of is in Herts.

    LOL... I believed you!
I was just going to suggest that their shiny version might not have been as baggy, saggy and cr4ppy as the ebay offering. Who buys those? It looks like something my old grandma might have had in the 1960s!
