I love a good tequila night.

    Dangerous, but fun. :D

Please tell me not the cheap stuff though...

I'm rather fond of a decent reposado or anejo after spending so many years in the southern USA.

I am not an aficionado. However I do insist on Jose Cuervo or better, and nothing funky added. There's a fine line between tequila and petrol, and I have a strict rule not to drink anything that tastes like it should power a vehicle instead. Not a big drinker me, so when I do, I like something nice. I would never make a good Scot though as I can't stand whisky, no matter how good the vintage.

So sorry to hear that NDG. I hope that it was quick and that the poor thing didn't suffer. Would be awful for the driver too.

As far as I can see, Christopher Jeffries was guilty of having let his hair grow too long, so he looked a bit odd. I've made a note to keep my hair tidy, just in case one of my neighbours dies in suspicious circumstances.

OH has a theory that having a decent pic of yourself readily available (such as on facebook) is a good defence against dying dramatically, as most tend to be blurred and awful.

You are kidding, right? We WANT regular updates. Kermie has been the first Nice Baby, and this is going to be the Nice Thesis. :)

    Absolutely. We want to know!

    micheals what has happened?

I had Nice hospitality, met a very Nice boy, saw the Nice baby and Nice balloon. Can vouch that their Nice mummy is taking having a small awake baby and older child very much in her stride.

I also caught a bus:eek: using a Nice Oystercard. I has been a topic of discussion at home this evening...as it was as exotic an experience as any foreign travel I have done in recent years.

Verdict I liked the bus. It was better than Tube travel.

It was very lovely to see you, Spirit! I do go to Waterloo quite often, as I go to York House immigration tribunal from there, and it's much easier to get there by bus than by tube, once you are armed with an oyster card. And I couldn't possibly have allowed you to pay for a bus ticket, it's more than twice the price of an oyster card swipe.

And I've relieved Kermie didn't spit milk all over your lovely, posh, dry-clean-only work gear - Sam keeps at least 2 chances of clothes here, just in case (-: But he just chatted at you, instead of throwing up on you.
Kiwi has a new 'game'. Its called 'hide and seek' he hides. We seek.

Its more fun for him than us.
    ......

    That sounds very, very dull.

We had a cat who was great at hiding, too, and often did it when she sensed we were about to move from one house to another. My mother got wise to her hiding places after a while, though, so we had a list to check - on top of the fridge and invisible from ground level was a good one.
This would be good, if he were wearing a collar when he hides. :(.

Mine don't wear collars at home ( unless sometimes when people are hear it makes things easier ).

You can get collars which break if put under a certain amount of strain - Yossie has them. They are rather clever.

Legal aid's almost gone away altogether in family law, AIUI.

I might have assumed - the one I found in the shed here does anyway.
You might not have spotted, I edited my previous posting after I'd had a look.

This is Ikea's sofa for people who can't decide which colour they want. Only £155, but you'd need to pay for delivery as well. It's one of their top sellers, too. You'd need to check whether it is big enough to sleep on, but very probably it is.

Without checking, I can tell you that no-one could possibly sleep on that. It's far too noisy......

I think I'm turning into my mum, or possibly even my grandmother. People can be so rude these days. When I was at the Olympics, people would wait until something good was happening and stick their iPads up in the air to film it, effectively blocking the view of the person behind them. Children are routinely allowed to use their scooters inside shops. So many people are not willing to queue or wait for anything without tutting or causing a scene.

Having a baby, on the other hand, makes you feel warm and cuddly about humanity in general.

People smile at and talk to him, let you queue-jump, help you on and off buses, give you seats, and are altogether lovely.

I think it was Oscar Wilde who opined, "all women become their mothers, and that is their tragedy. No man becomes his, and that is his."
    Plum update.

DH has managed to cut a path through to them all. The Victoria and the unknown blue one we'd reached before were straight forward. Never before uncovered maroony laden thing took longer, and just a narrow path, but its not yet ripe, or maybe its something that doesn't quite ripen like a damson or a bullace? Not very good with these stone fruits.

Anyway I'll ask on my green fingered thread.

How big is the unknown one?

Size is a good guide, as is taste. Is it sweet and can you eat it raw? Or is it a bit too sour for that?

There are all sorts of vaguely-plummy fruits, and you can do something good with all of them I reckon.
I've no desire to go to JL ... it's for "old, portly, busy-body women" in my past experience.... not "my sort of shop" at all .....and I'd rather spend the rest of my life never entering it to be honest :)

I don't think it is. John Lewis is the sort of place you go if you want to buy something decent at a reasonable price, with good customer service and helpful advice.

It's about the only shop my Dad's ever entered willingly, other than an off-licence, I think.

OH likes it, too. You go in there to buy T-shirts, say, or pants, and come out with easily-acquired decent quality clothes.

I've an apple tree in my garden.
    They're not crab apples.
I wish I knew what kinda apple tree it is.

Not sure what kind of apple tree I have either. But apparently it's a descendent of one of the trees from the orchard that stood here before the houses. I like that :)

Last night for our last student, it will be quiet without them... or would be if our kids weren't so noisy, lets hope school starts back soon.

This might be my last weekend of being a home alone for a while. Let's hope I can still remember how to share a roof!

Am I the only person who thinks the Silly Season shows how easy journalism can be? How's this for a non-story

    :D

Normally the news is very quiet in August. With Gaza v Israel, Iraq v Iraq v Iraq, and the Ukraine mess, it's all go.
I've never reached the dizzy heights of middle England, which is why I feel uncomfortable in there.... expensive, over-fussy, stuff at high prices. And shiny people, with shiny lives, shiny hair and good clothes.

    :)

John Lewis isn't that shiny. It's the sort of place you go to buy school uniform, or baby clothes, or a fridge, or men's pants.
You also need to be visitorless.... my two, to date, have managed to spill coffee (sofa arm) and coke (all down their white top).

    :)

I've had a third visitor, who was mostly confined to outdoors as they had a dog .... who promptly pee'd up my shed :)

Here's hoping it was the dog who got the shed, not the human accompanying the dog.....

I couldn't cope with a white sofa, either. Even if I didn't worry about children or guests despoiling it, I'd ruin it within days, for sure.
Like waitrose, JL do the best value 'whoopsies'. :)

After OH left for his camping thing, Kermie, Isaac and I went to Waitrose - OH isn't that keen on fish, and Isaac and I took advantage of his absence to buy fish for dinner. We ended up with a big slab of reduced cod for £3, down from £14. And half a kilo of smoked haddock for £3, too.
Having got through to the plums we need to use them. I found a recipe on bbc website for a tart with limoncello.

Plums freeze very well, too, depending how many you have.

NDG so sorry to hear about your sister's dog. What a horrible thing to happen, and doubly so with the open gate, I'd find that very worrying on top of sorrow. Best wishes to your sister, if it's possible. I'm just a random internet person to her, but I do really feel for her - I know just how horrid it is to lose a loved pet to the road. Hugs to you too.
