Anything from getting the boiler serviced, before the house blows up ... to repointing the chimney before it falls through the roof ..... or clearing a shelf to put up an ornament before an aged aunt who gave it as a gift visits?
Getting the garage sorted (though last week that became a priority!)
Buying curtains. For every room.
Sorting the chairs for the library. They were finally stripped a week ago. Still not got round to sanding & varnishing them.
There's still so much to get sorted in the garden (I've also been sneakily burning some stuff, to avoid transporting bags of green waste in my car:o ) but I'd rather try pinching the blackberries from next door.
I do want to get water butts. Affording it is the issue atm. I'm in the middle of a 6 week phase of having very little cash. If I can get through the 6 weeks without any bank charges etc, I'll be a happy bunny.
My plan is to not decorate until this time next year. I'll have then seen the house in all 4 seasons, & will have got used to living in it, & where feels hot/cold etc.Doozergirl wrote: »Riveting stuff.neverdespairgirl wrote: »Let me share something *really* annoying with you.
London children now say "OMG" and "LOL". In speech. The first time Isaac said, "oh-em-gee" out loud, I nearly fell over in shock. Sadly, he's said it more since then, as do his little friends. "El-oh-el" is not much less horrifying.

Hope you're all ok over there. It was a very placid late winter/early spring morning here. I've been pottering in the garden, trying to undo the damage that 6 months of neglect has done. Upuntil the last couple of weeks I've simply not been able to do stuff like that.
Even now, I'm completely whacked. Exhausted. Oh well. At least I'm on the mend.
Shepherds pie for dinner tonight. My special family recipe which has baked beans in it. Nom, nom. It's one of The Boy's favourites. The Girl has asked for my Special Chicken Pie with Yorkies and gravy on the side for her birthday dinner in a few weeks. She hasn't asked for pudding but when she does it'll be chocolate fondant: she bought me a cook book for Xmas a while back and the recipe is in there. She's very proud to have bought me a book with such a great recipe in it. She is also quite impressed that Daddy can cook a proper restaurant pudding!
Mrs Generali is watching the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony which she recorded.Overheard at the post office:
"This parcel is too heavy. You'll have to put more stamps on it."
"And this will make it lighter?"vivatifosi wrote: »It's days like today that make me like the fact that I can drive to a supermarket with an underground car park and get in and out of the car without getting wet. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
The thing is, can you hear the traffic sounds properly? If you can, then no problem - it's just like having the car radio on. Have the sound fairly low, or only use one ear, or something. Not being able to hear the traffic sounds is not safe. I caught DD cycling with big ear-covering headphones the other day, mercifully just on our street, which doesn't go anywhere so doesn't get passing traffic, but I made myself clear on the subject anyway.
However, that used to be me years ago. I did take the bike out the other day, as I walked (30 mins there, 30 mins back) to a nearby wilkos for some magnolia paint. Saw extra blackberries at some nearby allotments. Went back out of the bike, sans earphones picking.
Riding a bike is a lot harder (effort wise) than I recall!I've just picked up my carpet cleaner from a friend who is moving house. It's great spreading the joy of carpet cleaning :rotfl:. I had some errands to run so it fitted in well picking it up, but my house is such a state there is no way I'd have let anyone else drop it off here.
I think the storms have now passed here (for now anyway), but it is very wet outside. I am therefore going to spend the rest of the afternoon cleaning the house. It is well overdue. Today is a bonus day anyway as I was expecting to have another hangover (the overproof rum punch yesterday afternoon was lovely but potent) but I seem to have thankfully escaped unscathed.neverdespairgirl wrote: »

Thanks. I'm relieved that you're enjoying it rather than being irritated by it. I think I am a bit OCD about needing to catch up on every single post of this thread.
And then when I do catch up, I can't resist replying, however out of date I'm being.
Or posted better/funnier witticisms, which make mine look pathetic in comparison...:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Looking for something else entirely, but love these picture frames. What clip frames should be!!
This house is two minutes up the road from me, read and weep people in Herts. No there isn't a 0 missing in the price. You can't actually see the front of the house from the road, I have lusted before, but it's out of my price range.

All the car talk - I have to say, after a week of driving, I really really like the eos. Just glorious.

I'm off to pick more blackberries.
This days dragging. My dad is having a biopsy today & I guess that's why I'm in all sorts of avoidance behaviour.
Dunno why it is stressing me though, results take 2 weeks to come through. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It's damn worrying, that's why! Hope it turns out all to be okay, but you wouldn't be human if it didn't upset you.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
lemonjelly wrote: »I like blue, but do find it cold. I'm unlikely to decorate in blue - except for the summerhouse which I am sporadically painting blue, for a cooling effect. The exterior is a light sand colour.
I do wear a fair bit of blue too.
I like blue for decorating, too, but not overload of it - I wouldn't have blue walls & curtains & carpet, for example.
Isaac's room has very pale pink walls (which he chose) and light blue curtains with stars on, which I made. And they look OK, I think. WE have a blue shelf and upright post....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
