This morning first we had more bushes and now the taste of rancid old nuts...I am trying to sit on my hands to avoid typing anything

They are leading you into temptation.

Don't give in, or you will end up being the one that gets told off whilst the really naughty NP run away.

OH is re reading Just William at the moment. I am recommending it to micheals either as a "guide to life" or a cautionary tale.

Hi kermie, your typing got good quickly!

I think we're having curries for supper. Not sure yet, but think so.

Just gave the dozen crevettes to my neighbour as we are going out so I will not make Paella today after all.

I am not sure the neighbour wanted crevettes.. she has never cooked raw prawns before.

She gave me a large bag of runner beans and tomtoes:)

I didn't even know what crevettes are.... never heard the word before you used it. I'd not like those... don't do seafood/prawns/things with faces :)

But I'd have said so when you tried to hand them over..... so it became your problem again and not mine :)

I've never actually had paella. Seen it a couple of times at street/food festivals .. but those "funny seafood things/god knows what" they put in would mean I'd never be tempted. Happy to eat the rice bit... but not the bits with faces and 4rses :)

OH and Isaac have returned from the cycling, having done 20 miles + getting there and back, so about 22 in total. Mad boys. Doesn't the "being idle" option ever appeal?

Very good choice for OH. He should also re-read Swallows and Amazons, for good measure? It's hard to choose a fave Arthur Ransome, but if really pushed, I might well go for We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea, which as well as being a great read, is also a fab title for a book. Pigeon Post and The Picts and the Martyrs are also pretty good.
I remember you are a fellow owner of ' other men's flowers'. It really is IMO, the anthology to have over all others. There has always been a copy in my family home, and I have my own.

I agree, it's wonderful. And the quotation that forms the title is also fantastic, I think. I have gathered a posie of other men’s flowers, and nothing but the thread that binds them is mine own

ISTR that Wavell could recite pretty much all the poems he put in his anthology.

It's not perfect - it's not supposed to be a comprehensive anthology, though, it's personal and that makes it better, I think.

My own personal anthology would have more Kipling, more John Donne (I'm not sure there's any? Or little, anyway, in Flowers) and perhaps more George Herbert.
Blue is a beautiful colour, as a colour I love it. It has a personal connotation, like cold metals, that sits some what uncomfortably.

That's a beautiful dress I think, but in thing will be too much . The room will be full of dark colours. Lots of people will be in evening suits, and lots in academic gowns. I think some thing dark, but not black, and quite understated is my best bet, ( though that's as not me as blue and silver, lol. Not dark, I wear black happily! )

Blue and silver are probably two of my favourite colours - they both suit me, I think! I don't think of blue as cold, but I know that I'm out of step with that one.

    Hope you find something lovely.

Anyone else wondering what car Hamish bid on?

Something suitable for a very long overland trip....

Looking at several vehicles just now, which one I get will depend on which one I find at the right price, mileage, etc.

Probably a reasonably newish Defender/Patrol/Land Cruiser, but haven't completely ruled out something bigger, ie, older Unimog/Canter/Iveco with a camper body.

No rush, expecting to take a year or two as finances and time allow to rebuild and prep it after I buy anyway. Then there's the small matter of getting 12 months off work.....

It's a bucket list thing, but don't want to wait until retirement, and rejoining workforce after 12 months off might get difficult if I leave it too much longer.

They do both suit you. I think there is a blue to suit every one. And personally, I am a bit odd about colours, I think the colour that suits you can be the colour you love, more than the colour that suits you. Well worn, joy for a colour is more important I think than many other things. And I also agree there are warm blues.

But there are also icey ones. Its not that I don't like blue, I do. I just have a stiong personal disconnect with most shades of blue. Not all, but most.

I love blue, all shades except petrol blue.

Lots of shooting stars in the sky on Sunday.

Perseid meteor shower. :j The maximum will be on the night of the full (super) moon. Not seen any yet this year, it always seems to cloud over come evening. :( But we did get an excellent view of the ISS last night, there was a clearance in just the right place! :j
You take fantastic photos, maggie - and those are particularly good!

Thank you very much NDG. It's just sheer chance, I point, pray and press button! :rotfl: It really helps having the X30 zoom of course!

Here's today's butterfly photo, though I can't promise not to post more later! :p

Install a child's slide "in case" .... should be reduced/cheap as it's close to the end of the outdoor toy selling season.

Wow PN, that's such a brilliant idea! :T I think I'd better start searching toy shops! ;) Just hope they make extra wide slides! :o Bit broad in the beam! :o Need to look for one that has about a 4 foot drop.

OH and our visitor just got back from racing... Only 2 boats went out, so they just did a private race on a shortened course. DD1 decided not to helm as wind was very gusty - it can be difficult keeping your course in heavy gusts as the boat is so heavy and has a tendency to turn head to wind if you don't work very hard at pulling the tiller to counteract that. The rest of the Seabirds are off their moorings and in the harbour. The owners are back home this week, but will be back for racing next weekend, and with the dirty weather forecast for tomorrow they preferred not to leave boats out on the moorings when they're not here. Duck is staying out though since we'll be here. She has a cockpit cover so won't take any spray, and planks have tightened up nicely so we hope she'll be OK.

PN you'd feel right at home here today as OH and visitor came back from Abersoch with meat and potato pies from the local butcher. They didn't bring me any though, grrr! So lunch is a G&T for me. ;) Of course if you were here they'd have brought you one as you'd be a Guest.
