I wouldn't have thought it would extend to hospital appointments.

They can do. Obviously care for dependent adults is more generally thought of as in-home care, but the scheme where I work says transport to hospital appointments can be arranged. Not sure whether ours is a taxable benefit (I guess it must be - there is a small fee for usage, but that's the same as our healthcare cover which is definitely a P11D jobby)

In other news interview for other job was this week. He's decided not to go. Often he goes even if not sure just to see how it feels, but he's decided this one just doesn't feel right. Too many games and crud pre interview so its a waste of his time and theirs.

... games and crud pre interview ....
An increasing amount of that these days - all designed to ensure that the best person to do the job well has dropped out long before interview stage :)

It's really silly. DH is rarely the sort to say 'get stuffed' but he did this evening. If the change was to be lifestyle over money the lifestyle had to feel better. It very much was not feeling so in this stage o getting to know them!

Edit: its probably a great job for someone, just.....if they get some one from dh's type of firm with these tactics my guess is its some one who was really, really unhappy or struggling or running low on options.

Yes, he doesn't have to sign up to it. But there will doubtless be encouragement to. :)

It seems actually like a great scheme. Its care for all dependants, whether they are kids or dependant adults of any nature, when normal care provision falls through.

In the future I can see it might be really useful to us. But not yet :D

Could you send me details of teh provider please?

    Are NP marking WW1 today?

Tonight we are lighting a candle in a lantern and hanging it outside the front of the house to mark the centenary of WW1. All other lights will be off.

At 10.00pm there is a small ceremony at the Lychgate of our local church which is also our war memorial. OH and I will go.

I have no direct family connections however we have the medals of my husbands grandfather, a driver of horses in battle, and a brass box of his which once held a wartime chocolate gift.

Three relatives of mine were killed.

One great uncle missing on my father's side. I've found a heart breaking letter from his mother (my great grandmother) to the government department asking whether or not her son is alive as she had heard conflicting reports. The final line is something like 'You will understand my concern in this matter. Yours Sincerely, Elizabeth Masomnia.' It's so typically stiff upper-lip, it's tragic. His brother was in an artillery regiment so I think was spared most of the horrors.

Then on my mother's side two great uncles were killed, brothers, one in the month before the war ended and one at the Battle of Passchendaele. Another great uncle fought, my cousin-ish's father who talks about him, but said he would never talk about the war. I have his war medals.

So it does feel quite personal!
