All that other stuff going on is exactly why it's triggered. The hosting will be the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. Good work by the bank, really.

Yeah, good they alerted me and lucky I was available to take/make the call and recognised the company name immediately; I then remembered my password (I log on once a year or so) to log into my host and checked my account and could see the invoice/payment in there dated today too.

If I'd been, say, driving, 200 miles from home ..... without a PC to access, I'd have had 3-4 hours of multi-fraught :) ... and if the question is "Yeah, but how often are you...?" and I'd say "I just got back 2 days ago" :)

Martin came, all at the same time as a bit of a plumbing crisis. Kiwi tried to sign for the delivery but Martin wasn't having any of it.

I have a lovely box of space nk sale goodies. :).

Sorry to hear about the plumbing crisis. Would it be an idea to go in from underneath first, if the ceiling is planned to come down? Maybe there is the chance of damage limitation if something has fallen and can be located?

    You have an email. :D

Its below the secret dwarf room, so the ceiling is also the wood planks I want to preserve, but the lime plaster you guys patched for me after a previous unfortunate event has taken a real knocking this time. My guess is my best bet now , partly to prevent further rot in that wood, is to have the lime knocked out and just get on with revealing that wood, in what ever state its in.

But it does mean there is hope that there is something locatable in secret dwarf room, not behind just repaired joinery......I hope!!!!

    ... and hopefully it's something secret/shiny ... and not a skeleton!!
    :)

I think I'd rather find an ancient, secret document that exposed some large past event, or filled in a hole that historians had pondered over for centuries .... than a bog standard stash of silver coins.

I'd forgotten about the secret dwarf room. It's my favourite thing in your house. That's a positive, at least there is the potential for access or at least pinpointing.

The beautiful young plumber has just arrived now and is about to go into secret dwarf room. He was involved in heating install, and knows bathroom pipework run, so not much messing about hopefully.

Well, made the last transfer of funds ..... now awaiting confirmation it's all arrived, then silver can tell us the scarey story .... this Tx should take 2 hours to arrive at the solicitor's account, so then it's a question of how quickly they check/confirm to me by email that they've got it all.

Back when I was a lurker (probably even before the inaugural NPT) it always felt like you (lir), Gen and NDG were siblings :o Just something about the way you interact and communicate in general.

    Morning guys :)

When you hear "fluent" foreigners mangling the English language after high levels of English study and many years of being here ... you realise how hard it must be to learn another language.

Then you decide it's "OK" that you can't.

It's hard, but well worth it.

One week in the country itself is the same practice as a year in a classroom (don't know if this is still true, but was in my teaching days)

I like the t-shirts that are popping up on markets here, with 'I speak Georgian, what's your superpower?' :D
You have to use it, a lot, to be able to benefit from learning one really.... unless all you want to do is go on day trips to Calais and be able to order cake and coffee in a cafe :)

That's one example where it's not worth it.

I know a lot of the time crossing the border either to Kanilingrad or Ukraine, much of the border officers don't speak English, making at least basic Russian essential (it's as simple as they won't let you cross if you can't explain what they are asking you to).

I was speaking with Italian couple last night, and couldn't remember basic things like 'niece/nephew', so explained that they're OH's sisters children, meaning that whilst I'm not fluent in Italian, you use what you know to get the point across, without needing to memorise the whole dictionary.
