I've been on 40 posts per page since I tried it ages ago. Just saves so much time. Don't know why anybody does it the 20 per page way. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I was just wondering why he'd not got your immunity, and then you answered it. You were not immune either.
Yup. I can protect him against any illness that I'm protected against, and this isn't one of them.
Poor little soul looks very bewildered. He thought he was working out this "being alive" lark then it all goes and changes on him.Yes, like launching just one ship is a milliHelen.

I need sleep. Got some cooking left to do and bed linen to sort out, and what ever I'm going to wear tomorrow night. ( seriously not funny ATM). Bad ankle might change its name to evil ankle.
Lots of hugs for you, LIR. Dodgy and non-dodgy.

At, say, the Immigration tribunal in Feltham, there are 30-odd courtrooms. So if one of the trains that arrive in proper time from Waterloo gets stuck, half the courts will be minus a lawyer. So you have an alibi.
Being late without a VERY good reason is practically a hanging offence, though. Judges get quite cross.
In my 3 month trial last year, the Defendants (travelling together) were 20 minutes late one morning, after having arrived half an hour before court started at the latest every day up to then. It had been snowing hard.
The judge told the Defendants if they were late again, for any reason, he'd remand them all in custody for the rest of the trial.
Several years ago I did jury service in Gloucester crown court. One day it had snowed v heavily overnight. I got there on time, but was sent home because one or two jurors from the Forest of Dean were completely snowed in and couldn't get out of their villages at all. Everything was postponed to the following day.Yes, like launching just one ship is a milliHelen.
You beat me to it!PasturesNew wrote: »I will be buying a new PC .... although now I'm wondering if I should just get a new laptop. I've a laptop already, but it runs hot/noisy .... so it's on the list and just important, not critical.
My new laptop (bought Jan this year) is amazingly quieter and less hot than my old one (bought about 6 years ago). You would probably find the same.
Question for the NP. Suppose you needed to get a caravan from somewhere to somewhere else about 60-70 miles away, and then back again a week later. Suppose you had no tow-bar on your car, and wouldn't trust yourself to drive competently while towing anyway, but had plenty of money to hire somebody. How would you go about finding someone to hire for the job? Phone "man with a van" type people? Any other suggestions?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I'm still tea-towelled
The problem is that it's so humid - that's why evaporation isn't working as you would like it to. I would love this temperature if it was dry heat. As it is, I am enjoying it and hoping nobody minds me sweating.I can't stop eating. Can't start writing either. If only I could work out how to swap those two activities round it'd all be fine.
Bah.
Think I'll be setting my alarm early tomorrow.
Good luck. Try to do something tonight. Maybe not actually write anything, if you can't face that, but find the things you need to hit the ground running tomorrow morning, or make a list of where to start, or similar.
Evidently the meeting with the work friend tomorrow is beginning to have its effect.I've been on 40 posts per page since I tried it ages ago. Just saves so much time. Don't know why anybody does it the 20 per page way.
Me too.
In other news, I have received the first cheque (of 3 equal parts) of my compensation money. Sadly I didn't realise that any post had arrived until after it was too late to go to the bank to pay it in.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I'd try phoning a livery yard /riding stables near you and asking if any one was up for it or knew any one who might be. Shame about time of year, in fact, despite it might be worth calling That place I know to the north or where you used to live. If you know where I mean? They might have a member of staff who might consider it?0 -
Hurrah, Lydia, hurrah! Bank tomorrow!!0

Commiserations, take some comfort in that most of the adults in the country could have written the "just too hot" bit over the last couple of days.
It is lovely to read that you are thinking of your dad. That you have posted it says how much he was loved and is missed. It is not a moan to reminisce.
Even in the last week I have been thinking of my mum who died in 2010, and wanting to share "just sitting in the garden with her". My thought is "if I could have just one more day".
Thanks, Spirit. :A Went and sat out in the garden with OH and a G&T later, it was cool enough that I needed a cardie round my shoulders!Amazed to see a pair of dragonflies hunting on the wing - totally magical! :j Also a flock of swifts, which I was very pleased to see as mostly we've only seen up to 3 in flight together so far this year. OH had a conflagration in the incinerator of hedge that he'd just pruned, with some other weeds... It was fine when he started it, but the wind direction changed.
At least it kept the midgies off!
Oh, and we saw bats later too.
Not in the slightest maggie. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Sounds like you could do with some good vibes - so I'm sending some your way.
Thank you Nikkster. Good vibes always help. :AFeeling bit better mostly today, though it's been a difficult day in some ways quite apart from the heat.
Went to see my dear Ma-in-Law in Nursing Home. Shocked to see how frail and drawn she has become. OH and his bro have been clearing her flat prior to sale, and yesterday they took an almost life size papier mache shepherd (called Hugh, and complete with crook) that she made to a distant family member in (better not give name) Hall on the Wirral. It's residing in her house now, and will come out for Nativity Plays at Christmas. OH had tales to tell me about the garden there, but couldn't tell his Mum as it's too upsetting for her - she keeps saying the only thing that keeps her going is trying to get fit enough to get a new hip and go home.I transferred all of my photos of Penmaen garden (the one we went to see near Pwllheli when we were at the caravan in June) to my Kindle Fire, so we showed her those. She was interested to see the pics, it's an area she has known for all her life, and she's 91 now. She was also interested to hear about the dragonflies hunting over our garden yesterday evening. It's kind of hard to know what to talk about, as most of our life seems to revolve around weeding and watering at the moment, which doesn't make for riveting conversation! :rotfl:
Afterwards we called at the local Italian Restaurant for a late lunch... It was rush hour by the time we came out! I indulged in a glass of the house white, poor OH decided he better stick to water. Lovely starter of CAPRESE SALAD - Buffalo mozzarella, tomato and avocado slices dressed with extra virgin olive oil. Then Caesar Salad - Mixed leaves salad with croutons, bacon, strips of chicken with Ceasar dressing served with garlic bread. Which was really delicious, but I only managed to eat about a quarter of it - next time we go I think I'll take a plastic box for my leftovers!Usually OH hoovers them up, but he was full after French onion soup followed by POLLO ORANGE AND OLIVES - Pan fried chicken breast served with olives, fresh oranges and tomato sauce, with new potatoes, carrots and mange tout.
Home to a very hot house, but sat out in the garden for a while with G&T and a cig, driven in by the large numbers of midgies around. I've had some seriously nasty infected bites from stuff in the garden at this time of year, so decided it wasn't worth risking it with holiday looming. Moved to front porch instead - front garden gets so baked in the daytime that there don't seem to be as many biting insects out there. Roads round Liverpool will be seriously compromised over the next few days with the Giants coming back, so I'm glad we got our visit to MiL in today. OH is going to visit again on Monday, and take MiL's friend Pat too.
OH now gone out clubbing to Free Rock & Roll with The Stop Outs at Mello Mello.0
