I like to be able to give the landline number to people I do not want to bother me when I'm not at home - and especially when I'm at work. Also, the kids' friends ring them on the landline.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

A landline used to be better for getting credit/ singing up for utility contracts, as it showed stability like living in the same place for a while or having a bank account long term, or being on the electoral register, or being in a job for a while.
When we bought our second house we wanted internet and our cable company gave us a phone line dedicated for the internet, but it had a number which we gave out when needed to. It was great because if that phone rang we just ignored it as it would be cold callers. In fact we switched off the ringer .:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

The firework? The opening ceremony was even worse than previously described! Was it Samond standing in the long jump pit with a sparkler?0 -
All I know about caravan towing can be written on something really quite small. In a large size font.
The impression I have is that the size of the car used for towing matters. Big seems to be good. Also, 4wd. Driving a car like that all year round seems a bit OTT if you only want to tow a caravan once a year.
As a practical suggestion, why not contact the caravan club? You can't be the first person who needs a tow for one reason or another. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I've towed a trailer a few times. It's reversing that's hard.0

I'm told that my car (Ford C-max) would be adequate to tow my (merely medium sized) caravan, provided that anything remotely heavy about the luggage went in the car not the caravan.
Mind you, if this hiring a driver thing works out easily, I may just do that each summer. Could be a lot more straightforward than learning to tow, and cheaper than hiring a caravan as well as keeping DS and DD happy.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Don't know what any of that means, it was a recommendation from the techy board.
Had a lovely BBQ tonight with DS2, DS1 joining us tomorrow night.:T

Question for the NP. Suppose you needed to get a caravan from somewhere to somewhere else about 60-70 miles away, and then back again a week later. Suppose you had no tow-bar on your car, and wouldn't trust yourself to drive competently while towing anyway, but had plenty of money to hire somebody. How would you go about finding someone to hire for the job? Phone "man with a van" type people? Any other suggestions? If only. Sadly, garden not big enough, and neighbours get snotty if I keep it on the drive.
It was an excellent suggestion, though.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
