Good luck. Try to do something tonight. Maybe not actually write anything, if you can't face that, but find the things you need to hit the ground running tomorrow morning, or make a list of where to start, or similar.

Evidently the meeting with the work friend tomorrow is beginning to have its effect. :)

Yes. Apparently it is. It'll be a bit pathetic if I don't manage to get this/ anything done for tomorrow. It's not like I don't want it done!

Anyhow, I was thinking along the same lines so I did a calculation. Supervisor queried a stock solution molarity I'd put in my methods. I've dug out the appropriate lab book and recalculated. I agree with my original value. So when (WHEN) I send this chapter back to him I'll send my calculation too.

I already have a list. And all my thesis stuff in a large bag so I can cart it to and from work (never know when inspiration is going to hit). I do bag lady alarmingly well. As PN can verify :)

Question for the NP. Suppose you needed to get a caravan from somewhere to somewhere else about 60-70 miles away, and then back again a week later. Suppose you had no tow-bar on your car, and wouldn't trust yourself to drive competently while towing anyway, but had plenty of money to hire somebody. How would you go about finding someone to hire for the job? Phone "man with a van" type people? Any other suggestions?

I would consider hiring a static caravan/mobile home in the location I wanted to go to.

I would ask the person who was lending me the caravan if they could assist and I could recompense them.

If I owned the caravan or thought I would repeat the exercise I would book trailer towing lessons and learn to do it and I would have a tow bar fitted.

Years ago I would take turns towing our caravan on long journeys, but always handed over before we got to narrow/town roads.:o If we got another I would definitely have lessons and then have a go.

Put the job on anyvan.com ... and/or similar sites.

I used them for my move. You get a bunch of quotes and can then pick/choose which one you like the sound of best.

Since my move I've had a text saying "we also deliver/move cars", so that sort of site would have people who do towing.

Several years ago I did jury service in Gloucester crown court. One day it had snowed v heavily overnight. I got there on time, but was sent home because one or two jurors from the Forest of Dean were completely snowed in and couldn't get out of their villages at all. Everything was postponed to the following day.

Judges are a lot nicer to jurors than they are to Defendants.

Glad to hear you have your cheque - I'm with LIR, nip down to the bank tomorrow, sharpish, and pay it in!

I own the caravan. I only intend using it for one week every summer. Financially and practically, the sensible thing to do would be to get rid of the thing and hire one at the location. However, DS and DD are v attached to our caravan because of memories of their dad in it.

I think it would take a lot of lessons for me to be confident to drive 60+ miles without another adult with me. I would like to learn to tow eventually, but until now there has been too much else on my plate for learning to tow to get high enough up my priority list to happen. :o

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'd try phoning a livery yard /riding stables near you and asking if any one was up for it or knew any one who might be. Shame about time of year, in fact, despite it might be worth calling That place I know to the north or where you used to live. If you know where I mean? They might have a member of staff who might consider it?

Being very dim here, but no idea what you mean. My PM box is nearly full - could you email me please???

So far I've bought a new bike for DD and bike helmet for DS. I'm about to order a new cordless phone since my old one is now completely defunct. Since the house only has one socket, I have been getting lots of exercise running up and down the stairs every time the phone rings when I'm using my computer upstairs.

Wacky "out there" suggestion, probably totally inappropriate ... but is it possible to get your original caravan put in your garden? Then it can be used a lot .... and you can simply rent a caravan elsewhere for holidays.

Mine, which, come to think of it, I've not seen/found yet ... but it's in a box somewhere ..... is a two handset/unit job. Great as you know you can have one up, one down .... and if one doesn't get put in the cradle, the other's still fully charged.

If only. Sadly, garden not big enough, and neighbours get snotty if I keep it on the drive. :( It was an excellent suggestion, though. :)
