According to some guy on the radio last night, planes flying above 40,000 feet (may be wrong figure- don't try this at home) are too far away to be hit by missiles. I'm sure it is more complicated than that, including at the very least the angle the missile is fired.

This is how the ABC (BBC misspelled) shows it:

What surprises me is that it is fine to complain that the cabinet was male pale and stale - imagine the reaction if you suggested it was too female, coloured and radical.....It is this sort of done standard that fuels ukip and the London liberals are literally unable to see their double standards.
    I think....

I guess the problem is that every senior part of every organisation is white, male and middle class. Just look around the front office where I work: the only department (Quants) which employs non-whites in number (in Aus that means people of British and Irish descent so Greeks & Italians don't count as white even) employs a vast number of Asian, middle-class, middle aged men. That's where the next CEO is coming from.

Our board is all white and has 1 woman on it IIRC. Our investment committees are almost all male and white. Both our Chief Investment Officers are white men. Our CEO is a white man.

Equal opportunities are only for the shop floor and that's where they hammer the point home.

The white men at the top don't care because how the heck can you really sue Citi/Goldmans/HSBC/Putnam/Massive Investment Co PLC because you only made Associate Director/Divisional MD? (That's the ceiling in most organisations).

They're reporting it over here as being possibly a little more complex in that the Americans won't let their commercial airliners fly over SE Ukraine. Dunno if that's the case, just the reports on the Aussie news.

I'm sure some avoided Ukraine Airspace, but most didn't. NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) had specified which routes should be avoided, but it didn't include the one MAS was on, or was at best 'vague' Although Military Aircraft had been shot down in the Area, it was assumed Aircraft flying at FL330 would be out of range of the equipment the 'insurgents' had. Like many things it's also a numbers game. Malaysian are in deep financial problems, so wouldn't want to burn anymore fuel than necessary.

I think you know, I used to work in the Aerospace Insurance industry, so still maintain an interest. If anyones interested one of the best sites to get information from is the Professional Pilots Rumour Network.

Interesting, I would have guessed that investment bankng would be a place where your ability to earn money for the company would over ride any other considerations.
    I think....

Seeing as the sun is still getting it's act together, thought I'd empty one of the boxes my parents brought over last time they were here. I'm looking for a CD which I'm sure I already have, but got cheap in the supermarket this week (I'll take it back if I've already got it here).

Not found the CD, but I did find a load of photos. All from leaving school/ undergraduate days. I've learnt a few things:
    I am a terrible photographer
I have lost contact with a LOT of people (only a couple I'm in any kind of contact with, but one is still a really close friend)
Whilst I've never pushed myself to the front of a photo opportunity, there was apparently a time when I could bear to be in a photo
I'm definitely heavier than I was in those photos, but I've never looked even slightly slim.

    You need one of these.

it shows you whether the mains voltage is present.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

You looked very slim last Saturday morning; we both did. That All you can Eat breakfast was swarming with people larger than us :)

Strangely enough, I think I have one here... in the box beside me. Box of "random tools grabbed from dad's tools just before the house clearance came and took most stuff away en masse"

However.... what do you really think my chances of survival would be: perched up a ladder, poking about randomly in potentially live electrical thingies.....?
