It doesn't quite work like that. I've probably been on flights across Iraq and Afghanistan, on more than a dozen occasions, whilst they were War zones. They're a corridors in the Sky which are deemed to be safe, as was the one in Ukraine, despite way the tabloid media might say!

They're reporting it over here as being possibly a little more complex in that the Americans won't let their commercial airliners fly over SE Ukraine. Dunno if that's the case, just the reports on the Aussie news.

Oh and the Dutchie/Aussie thing reminds me. Remember P@k1gate? One of the idiot royals called his mate a P@k1. Aussies didn't understand the problem: "I'm an Aussie from Australia, what the heck else do you call someone from Pakistan? Pakistani? Bit of a mouthful there mate."

A few years ago there was an incident in the football team at DS's primary school where a boy was suspended from the team for calling somebody a P@ki. DS had never heard the word before, and wanted to know what it meant and why using it was bad. So I suddenly found myself trying to explain why P@ki is deeply offensive but other abbreviations such as Aussie are innocuous. I found it quite tricky.

I'm amazed how apparently easy a SAM system is to operate. If we believe what we are told, a bunch of separatists have 'liberated' some missiles from Russia. Not your shoulder-fired missiles, but major pieces of kit. Well, either these guys are really good at reading the manuals, or the missiles came with a bunch of Russian advisers who know how to operate them.

If there were such advisers then they evidently knew how to fire them but not how to tell the difference between Ukrainian military planes and Malaysian civilian ones. :(
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

The most common forms of colourblindness are caused by a defective gene or genes on the X chromosome. Since your dad clearly didn't give you his X chromosome, he couldn't pass on his colourblindness to you. Your sisters, if any, will be carriers, however, and their sons will have a 50/50 chance of being colourblind.

    I got 10/10.

That makes perfect sense. My Dad claimed he was colour blind on certain colours, so I could be a carrier and have passed that to my boys.

It's all about context really. If you use a word about someone's race to insult them then that's racist. If you use a word about someone's race to describe them then it isn't IMHO.

For example the word 'Pom' isn't racist whereas the phrase 'Pommie baastaad' is I think (although it isn't viewed as such in Aus who have some very strange ideas about what's racist)

IMO, it's all to do with the intent behind the use of the word, as with the n word. It's used as a derogatory term, so has become a no go. P@ki especially is often (probably more often than not) used incorrectly as referring to anyone from southern Asia. When in fact they have no links to Pakistan.

    Edit: cross posted with Gen

With hindsight 'someone' should probably thought about the wisdom of flying over a war zone where surface to air missiles were being used. As a conspkyracy theorist you would look at the aids specialists on the plane and Russia's intolerance.......

According to some guy on the radio last night, planes flying above 40,000 feet (may be wrong figure- don't try this at home) are too far away to be hit by missiles. I'm sure it is more complicated than that, including at the very least the angle the missile is fired.

Got up the ladder, with the right screwdriver.... unscrewed the four screws on the housing, removed the housing, looked at the lightbulb and thought "Er... not got any of those".... followed quickly by "how the heck do you get that out then?"

Now, if you don't know, then you could be pulling instead of pushing, twisting instead of tugging, pushing bits in that could snap. So I tried gently pulling it downwards.... couldn't spot any way to get it out.

So taken photos of it and I think I need to head for screwfix to show them the photos and say "How do you get that out then? Can I please buy a bulb that fits that...."

I'm sure our collective knowledge could help; if not us then the DIY board must have people that can change light bulbs.

I think by the time I've removed the photos from my phone and uplaoded them and linked them .... and anybody here who knows is about .... and starts to try to explain, I could have driven to screwfix (400 yards) and asked the little man there :)

Unless he's got no idea either

Actually, I should be off and do that. Back in a bit

Yes, can you post a picture PN?
Or, are there any clues as to the make/ model? I bet there's a video on you tube showing you how to change the bulb.
