Me too, Viva. That lovely cool rainy air is coming through the window. I'm wide awake. Kermie is sleeping like a... er.... baby! So are OH and Isaac....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I'd noticed the two drains that take rainwater from the gutters were full of dead leaves - and it was on the list to clear those. Obviously, being a girl, I've put it off. Well, after last night's rain and with more to come, I've taken the top grid off one of them and dug out the top 10" or so of dead leaves.... but there's still more. I need some kind of a "scoop" I guess to get in there and leverage it out. So, getting a scoop is now on the list ....
It's something really I was going to keep an eye out at car boots for: something strong with a long handle.... a big catering serving spoon sized thing for dipping in and scooping mucky stuff out..... have to see what I can find today now really.
I can see from last night's rain that there's been some splashback onto the brickwork - I'd also noticed that the bottom 6" of downpipe is missing, usually they are flush with the drain grid.... but this one's not. Obviously last owners did something bizarre with the end of the downpipe. That'd also been a job on the list that didn't seem so urgent/critical at the time.
All this has moved from "important" to "urgent".0 -
I didn't read what you wrote CK, but this won't go to all out war, it will go to the UN. The UN will put a resolution together that will allow air accident investigators on the ground. They won't be from US, Russia or Ukraine, but likely from the other countries. Malaysia and Netherlands, possibly Australia as countries that have a high level of interest, probably France and UK due to high level of ability in air accident investigation. Clearly US should be involved as it was American built plane, but they probably won't. What will then guide things is how Putin reacts. He's quite backed into a corner at the moment.
The rebels say that they have the black box flight recorders and will hand these to Russia. Under international law they will have to hand them on to the authorities investigating, which as you know from the earlier incident in this case should be Malaysia.
As I said on the other thread, it is inconceivable that it will not be possible to get to the bottom of this pretty quickly and that - due to the sensitivity of the area - that there will have been spy satellites all over the area. Even if they couldn't see the weaponry on the ground shoot it due to cloud cover, the plane would have been above the clouds and they would have got a good view of it being shot out of the sky. Similarly as clouds are not a constant, they would be able to lock on the area and spot the rocket launcher either before or after from going through footage and see who was controlling it.
Rather than fearing WW3, I am more hopeful that this will cause some banging of heads together at the UN and that these 298 lives will not have been lost in vain. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? My recurring nightmare as a child involved a plane falling out of the sky. Occassionally it comes back to haunt me. Last night I had to sleep with the windows open. Little traffic comes past, but when it does, it's got up a fair bit of speed but may have to start slowing down for some traffic lights. If someone has a noisy engine, it scares the bejeesus out of me and wakes me, heart racing. I needed the window open.
Between that, the long rumble of distant thunder and the dreadful news, my night was pretty fraught. All made up by imagination, but horridEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The MH17 news is awful. It's one thing a plane being involved in an accident, but being (allegedly) shot down?0

Dooz, completely understandable. Sorry you had a bad nights sleep. News last night was bad on several fronts, it was a very depressing broadcast all in all. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? More jobs for today that were previously on the list .... and moved from important to critical. Garden light doesn't work, just needs bulb replacing - and I got a text at 7am inviting me over the road (ex-work colleague) to tea.
So, now I'm going out I'll need a light here so I can return. I'd also like a lamp on in the house while I'm out. So, I bought a cordless screwdriver the other week, ideal for getting the screws off the outside light cover - unboxed it and, of course, it needs charging.... for 3 hours. So, as it's 7.30am and I want to dash out and do stuff, I can't put that on charge as I can't leave a new electrical device on charge in the house while I go out. Been up the ladder with 3 different manual screwdrivers and so far managed to get one screw 90% of the way out ... but it's a "bit odd" to be up the ladder at 7-7.30am so I'll continue with that later.
Also need to find my rubber mallet, which might be in the shed, as I want to build my fabric wardrobe and the destructions indicate you need a mallet of some sort.
So many tiny, irritating, time-consuming little things to do.
I also still need some curtain rings, but sat in the last two days "waiting" for BT - last time I was upgraded and the time before when I was connected I remember an engineer randomly turns up at the door without warning and wants access to the socket (the socket that I haven't got, so would need to be here so he can see it and go "oh, needs new socket".... so can't miss that.0
