I think it's been 2 weeks since I last mowed the grass (just before my parents came to stay). It was surprisingly short. There were a couple of brown areas - with green weeds interspersed. And some very tall weeds (not sure what they are, but I don't like them!). There is quite a lot of clover, which doesn't help the lawn look well-manicured, but has flowers in a really lovely shade of purple.

I've cut the buddleia back hard - next step will have to be getting rid of the trunk - and somehow the roots.

Cos its been quite dry really. :).

Clover is pretty and bees like it, ( great for you veg and the bees) its a nitrogen fixer organically, and unless you plan to start non organic small holding I think its an asset personally. ;)

I won't get a job where I can work from home.... very few jobs do allow that. I've found a few in the past, but, as a rule, bosses like to see bums on seats.

    :)

DH is considering applying for a job that would have a substantial pay cut but be the right side of London and he'd be starting from the point of negotiating some work from home. It might be he'd be in London only two nights a week for example. Not sure because the maths looks cruddy ( big pay cut but benefits good, so might still be dodgy for tax brackets, which other wise would automatically make a difference. ). He might not even get an interview anyway :D

    Shhh.... don't let on :)

Re BBQ, once you've got through your disposables.... all a BBQ is is a base, some charcoal and a metal grill. View every small tin as a potential BBQ-for-1. A fray bentos pie tin would be good if it were a bit deeper... although it'd probably actually work.

When (:)) you come and stay, you'll see just how non-luxury my house is, esp compared to yours.

It is (partly) mine though, and I still haven't seen anything I wish I'd bought instead. I LOVE the garden (who'd have thought that would happen? not me), I have great neighbours, and I have ideas as to how to do the place up (if not the money). I do wish that I wasn't doing it all alone, but hey - I'm doing it and I'm very grateful for that.

It's a year since my 2nd viewing. And a year + 1 day since my 1st viewing. I remember saying during the 2nd viewing that I could see myself living here (was a bit of bluster, this was by way over the budget I'd set myself) - never dreamt thatI'd get an offer accepted!

I can say now that we've all completed. but the NP who've bought recently (I include myself), have done very well. From what I've seen I think everyone has got great houses, and though things may have taken longer than planned, everyone's purchases went through :)

Working from home is pretty much encouraged where I work. Not sure whether it is the same throughout the company (I suspect it is, though perhaps to a slightly lesser extent), but my department is very family orientated. Get your work done and no-one is bothered what time you arrive/ leave (no clocking in or out) or whether you've done the work sat at your desk or at home.

BBQ-wise, I've been gifted one of these:

I was told I've been lent it (as I mentioned, I'm not good at receiving gifts as I'm very fussy), but I think it's mine to keep as I really like the colour ;) This was the BBQ that was christened when my parents visited :)

Dunno about it being so dry - I think it's rained more than last summer (though possibly only 'cause I have a water butt or two to keep an eye on this year - and more to the point, a water meter).

Not complaining though - the mowing would have been even harder work if the grass had been growing more!

No plans for non-organic small holdings here. Might turn one corner of the garden into an allotment-style patch though...

Heard a rumble outside, it's raining!

Mr Spirit got in from tennis (and the pub) at about 10.30 pm and he and I were sitting in the garden drinking coffee. The wind has picked up in trees..it sounds like a train...then huge rain drops. So we have picked up the cushions and come in.

Besides which, if we do get this rain forecast you might want to remow on Monday.......hot and wet it might shoot up like a rain forest.

We have to move a buddleia in autumn. Cannot decide where to. In to privet hedge for screening seems most likely, though will make cutting the hedge a lot harder! :D

Our little field was too wet to get the grasscutter on it, and there is no access for a tractor. SO last weekend he hired a rough cutter and cut the grass down. It was about four feet tall. The rough cutter was not quite the right tool for teh job.

We needed tom term and his scythe.

It will need cutting again and is still too much for the ride on.

Apparently not - I 'totally rocked the color test' (10/10)

I am very happy with home working for staff where the work is suitable. My team all have some kind of flexible working.
