  • Thank you lovelies :)

Bazzi - hope life has settled down now! I run at 6.3kph and walk at 5-5.5kph, with a few walk breaks it averaged out at 6kph for my 5k haha!

    Trying for another tonight...eep!

  • Week one done...the hardest part was finding the time to get to the gym but I'm guessing that won't be the case every week! I'm not quite sure how I'll fit the gym in over the next few weeks because I'm travelling for work later this week and next week then I'm on holiday the following one. I may end up back at square one in mid-october.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • Take your trainers on holiday ;)

Well I'm down to 47 minutes for the 5k, done it 3 times now, aiming for 40-45 minutes by the end of October :)

Had a nosebleed after last night's run - was a bit alarming, but I feel a little better now!

  • I am a C25k newbie, about to do W3R2 tonight. I haven't run since school (am 35 now!!), so I'm finding it a bit of a challenge, and am worried about Week 4 as it seems a very big jump up.

I currently walk at 3.6mph (5.7kph) and run at 5.6mph (9kph), which means that by the end of Week 9, should I still be on the land of the living, I still won't be running 5k in the 30 minutes. :( Not at all convinced that I could do any of the longer runs much faster at the moment though.

I assume that you are doing it on a treadmill?

Don't be too worried about reducing your running speed if you need to. 9kph is quite fast to start off with.

That is one of the issues with doing it on a treadmill, it is a regulated speed, whereas if you were doing it outside you regulate yourself and are more likely to alter your pace to account for the longer runs (or if you are just plain knackered ;) )

Don't be overly concerned about the 5k in 30 mins. You can build up the speed later if you wish or, like my wife, extend the distance, she now does up to half marathon at that sort of pace but can't really do 5k that much quicker.

As a complete couch potato, I've just done week 4 run one and it wasn't as big a jump as I thought it might be. Waiting to see if run 2 is better or worse, as I am feeling the legs today. I've also started doing stretches every day as I was getting calf pain, and that's helped as well. I'm doing the runs outdoors - no ideas about speed, except I'm pretty sure it's slow!

Well done. I don't think many people are ready for 5k in 30 minutes at the end of the programme. I doubt I'll ever be able to do it that fast. Just add 5 minutes until you get there and then do it a few times so you're sure you're comfortable and then you can decide what the next challenge is !!

I did c25k a while ago (prob more than 2 years:eek:) and now find it is easier to get back into it without going back to the beginning.

Can run 5k in 28 mins, and have done two triathlons this year, doing another in 2 weeks, all because of the good old c25k

Yes, although I plan to join my friend, who runs outside, in a few weeks. Once I feel like I might not embarrass myself! :o Thanks for the advice, it's appreciated. :)

Elsien - That's encouraging to hear that you didn't find Week 4 such a shock to the system! :) One thing I've noticed this week is that I'm getting the hang of breathing steadier, instead of gasping for breath all the way!

    Week 5 day 3.
They're joking, right? Meant to be doing it today, and hasn't realised it was such a big jump. And it's raining. Am currently waving my motivation out of the door.
