  • Back on the running wagon again after promising to do the Great North 5k next year. Managed 2.5k last night so that's not too bad I guess :)

I'm still creeping towards the 5K, I have just done w5r3 but will need to do it again as I did have to stop and walk for a bit during the first run. I'm finding the step up during this week to 8 minute runs really tough not helped by the fact that due to work pressures I am finding it hard to actually fit the runs in. I've decided to run when I can but to repeat each run twice so that I am stepping up slowly.

  • Well I've run for 30 mins straight!! I've completed the programme. However that 30 mins (on the treadmill mind you) was 2.3 miles so not quite the 5k. Will keep going and see if I can get faster.
  • Week one, day one - done finally!

I've been putting it off for a while because I've had this lingering cough and cold but I felt almost back to normal today and decided that if I wait until everything is 100% I'll end up waiting forever. I found it pretty easy really...I'm guessing that's just to lull me into a false sense of security and get me into the program before ramping it up!

Well done. I don't think many people are ready for 5k in 30 minutes at the end of the programme. I doubt I'll ever be able to do it that fast. Just add 5 minutes until you get there and then do it a few times so you're sure you're comfortable and then you can decide what the next challenge is !!

I completed it a good few months ago now and still don't manage 5k in 30 most of the time but can keep the same pace for longer.

Just completed week 1 of 10k training, I'm far too slow to do 5k in 30 minutes, but my plan is in 5 weeks time once I've got up to running 1 hour solidly I'll spend a couple of months trying to improve on my times, then I'll start my half marathon training.

Actually feel ready to move to the next week of 10k which is 4 reps of 12 minutes with 1min brisk walk in between,
  • I just managed 5k. I think I'm still in shock. It did take me 50 minutes but I just kept it steady and slowed down a little when I needed to :)

  • Well done hbs!

I did run 1 week 1 last week then life blew up in my face so I didn't manage to get to the gym again until yesterday so I'm starting over in hopes of actually getting the 3 runs done in a single week rather than over a month. I'm not working tomorrow and then have a free weekend so i think I will manage to get through one week at least!

Oh - I wanted to ask, does anyone else do their runs on a treadmill? If so, what speeds do you walk/run at?

Great stuff. My first 5k was 45 minutes and I'm only about 37 minutes now and I doubt I'll ever get faster. But I don't care - I know I'm running not walking which is all that matters
