I wish DD would put as much effort into her schoolwork as she does making loom band stuff! She's doing them non stop, she's made an iPod cover, pencil toppers, Adventure Time figures, and bracelets of every conceivable design. I can do a basic bracelet but I prefer to use the loom otherwise I feel like the circulation is being cut off in my fingers!

How did she make an ipod cover? It sounds amazing. DD has been making one long fishtail strand for the last 2 days, it stretches from one end of the room to the other but probably cost a fortune in looms.

It makes me sound ancient but it reminds me a bit of the French knitting that I used to do, there was something very satisfying in that also.

My daughter and her friends have just made skipping ropes with their looms lol. It's raining here and keeping them occupied, so as long as they're quiet and not fighting they can make whatever they like IMO lol.

I'm going to look into the iPod cover though.

beg, borrow or nick a cable knitting needle (steel not plastic) and bend it in half until the ends are about an inch apart. you now have a painless substitute for fingers!
if she can make an Ipod cover then she is brilliant - I must have watched that youtube vid ten times and I still don't 'get it'!:(

She got it from looking at the videos on her ipod - she does seem to grasp how to do the quite complicated stuff fairly quickly, although she completed the ipod cover on her second attempt, she messed up the finishing the first time.

I know I wouldn't have a clue, she tried to show me how to do an inverted fishtail on a loom and it took me ages to grasp it. I'll try the cable needle tip though - at the moment I'm making the basic 3 band bracelets on one of her looms. They're both on the eco committee in school and apparently they want a stall to sell bands at their school fete next Tuesday so I'm trying to make some in world cup colours :o:D.

DD's away this week on a residential with the school until Friday - I have discovered a maternal side I never realised I had and I'm missing her like mad, so I feel a bit closer to her by doing her favourite thing! Looming!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

Just wondering why are schools banning them?

    Kids arguing over them?
    No jewellery allowed in schools?
Health and safety in case they slip on elastic bands?

    Seems a shame.
in my kids school they have a loom club. my kids school seems pretty engaged with this fad and are encouraging the kids to be as creative as possible with them.

One school local to us has both a headteacher, and a couple of children with latex allergies - and therefore for a long time has had very strong requests in place for people not to come in using normal pencil erasers (those rubbish hard ones that don't rub out are OK), balloons and similar - I believe they've had to add these to the list as well (the school secretary has to screen out all the elastic banded mail that comes in before it gets near those with allergies).

Disappointed the kids are too young to be in to this - it looks really rather fun... although my 2 year old is obsessed with trying to crochet so there's hope yet!
