  • I'm really bad at this diary thing. I get so sidet acked and forget about it.

Too true INOD. It helps with the motivation to keep going.
:j It's so great seeing £0 balances isn't it, we got the confirmation letter to say that dh computer finance account was settled such a lovely feeling!

Hope you enjoy getting the things ready for the shop.

    How is your Mum feeling?

I love seeing 0 balances. I hope to see a few more soon. Mum is getting better thanks. She is such a tough old bird and its worrying to see her when she is fragile.

Have you applied for DLA for him yet ? It's not means tested and will help.

Thank you for your support dawnybabes. I work with young people with ASD but its different when it's your own child isn't it. Life is difficult enough without extra problems for young folks to deal with. DH is an aspie (his term not mine) and is generally just an antisocial smart !!!!! so hopefully DS will follow his dad. He does seem to be more autistic though.
hey Parsnip head, I read but don't post, are you alright? any job news?

    *sound a freaky lurker,sorry!*

Job.....ooh will find out at the end of Feb but its not looking good. To be honest any happens will have to be dealt with. Perhaps it's the kick up the bum I need. I'm a dreadful procrastinator.

Don't worry about the lurker thing I lurk on so many diaries it would be a full time job to comment. It's nice to follow folks though and see they are doing OK.

Thanks for all the comments. You folks are all too lovely.:)

Right firstly I have deleted my son's very random post. I give up, you must thinki ive completely lost it sometimes.

Well it's been an interesting three week. Firstly being off with son, then sick and then half term. It's probably not the best time for it to happen but life is life and we are not robots as much as employers (well mine anyway) think we should be.
There has been much time thinking.....perhaps too much time but I'm one of lifes ponderers.:)

I have had a self employed business, part time, for a while and one of my aims was to push this to full time. I was previously full time when I was 19/20 and obviously a bit full of my self but this cocky teenager has gone, life has worked it's sometimes hard magic, and I'm not as brave as I used to be.........but......

I know my post at work is being made redundant, so I will be either offered a badly paid role or redundancy.I would get some redundancy pay, not a lot but enough to keep me ticking over. Working at a college definitely has its benefits.no worries about school holidays, etc which is good as my son wouldn't cope with a child minder due to his issues and I have a very small amount of people who could watch him for me....well one actually. So.............

Working from home full time would be the ideal solution.

    PROS

Doing something I want to do.
I have previous experience and added experience.
    I'm good at it.
    I would be happier.
I would be less stressed. Well a different kind of stress but that's OK.
    No childcare issues.
No costs for breakfast club and no tantrums going.
    Travel costs saved.

    CONS
    No set regular income.
    Stress getting business
Making sure mum knows I'm working and don't have time to just faff about.

It's a no brainier. I need to go and find my guts and when the time comes get on with it.

Sorry for the waffle. I just need to get it out.

DS wants to make a comment now so I'm off. Apologies for the following post.( not the one BT chrysalis BTW)

  • Morning P, sounds like the decision has one way to go, I worked at a college too and wondered whether losing the holidays and regular income was going to mess us up completely but we're doing absolutely fine.

It's so hard to leave a comfort zone but stick with it and don't be worried that you're work hours are bitty and random, my work/life balance is so much better.

    Thank you chrysalis.

I have definitely hit an age where I think about what I wan more often. I know what I'm going to do really and a chunk of money will help.

I'm glad it's going well for you. I think the work/life balance thing is so important.

Good morning. A few minutes to kill before heading off.

I have been awake most of the night with my head buzzing with thoughts and ideas. I have finally made a decision. Life is passing me by and I want to enjoy it so I'm going to go back to full time self employment. It ticks all the boxes, makes sense and is what I want to do. There are more pros than con and I have done it previously so know what I'm heading into.

I have a number of options. If I find out this week that I'm redundant I will just go with the flow. I think they want us to stay until either Easter or the end of the academic year. Whichever it is I'm going to keep going and get as much money as I can. Hopefully by being extremely frugal I can make a big dent in the last bit of debt.

I'm also going to start increasing the work I bring in. I tend to just do enough to cover free days but a few late nights to get things rolling in the right direction before I'm out of my current job won't hurt.

I have a personal challenge running of making an additional £5000 before august. I plan to put any money made on this challenge aside for a large emergency fund. Decluttering here I come. I have ALL DS's clothes from year dot and they are really looking up. I have to face the fact that they won't be filled again and keeping them is pointless.

So from today I consider myself full time self employed (with an extra job as well for the time being). Oh and if I don't get made redundant I'm going for it anyway and plan to leave my job at the end of the year. I will just take few more months money to top up what I can save.

    Hello diary.

Things have moved on since I last visited. My job has been made redundant and I have had to apply for a lower paid position there. It will be for a very short time if I get it as I have no loyallty to that place any longer. I have to go for an interview tomorrow. I really wish I had taken voluntary redundancy......never mind, it's too late now.

I'm still working on self employment and building that up. More later.

This weekend I have been doing lot of reading. I have read Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and Complete Guide to Money. I have had these books for a long time, well five years for the first one bit not really followed his advice. I have realised this weekend if I had followed his advice I would be debt free and have savings by now. My budgeting has not been as good as I thought and have now looked at it again. I have started on baby step one and I tend to complete this step ASAP.

Very, very excited and positive at the moment.

    I hope everyone is OK.:)
