Something to do with Flash as well, still investigating. Was going to do an additional Tesco account, but on hold, maybe never.
No issues at all with other online banks.
Laugh out loud, at me trying to re-learn how to work the ancient mobile, so as to get new security number.

People here talk about "two Internet Saver accounts" for direct debit requirements. Why do you need 2 if you can have multiple DDMs on one account ?

    thanks

Yes you can have multiple DD's set up on one account. The problem comes when you use that one account to pull two DD's from the same bank account, ie Santander or HBOS. It seems that two DD's pulling from the same account gives the appearance that only one DD is set up on the account being pulled from. Having different Tesco accounts gives you two account numbers and so it follows that each is regarded as separate entities by the likes of Santander and HBOS.

Just a query on this subject.

I have the two Tesco accounts. I set a DD pulling to one of the accounts from an account with Bank X. At the end of setting it up, Tesco asked if I would like to make that DD available from all savings accounts - or words to similar effect- to which I said yes. Tesco also offered me sight of the DD mandate - which looked OK.

When I changed over to my other Tesco saver account, there were the bank details for Bank X - so I set up a DD pull from Bank X, but was not then offered sight of the mandate.

Do I assume from this that there is only one mandate, and will this mean that - even though the pulls are to different accounts within Tesco - BankX will read this as Tesco exercising the same mandate twice - and thus not fulfilling Bank X's requirement?

You have a couple of options (but I'd do both to be sure)...

    1. Initiate some pulls (which it seems you've done) and see what's shown on your bank statement/list of recent transactions.

    2. Check the list of DDs on your bank's online platform to see if two separate mandates are shown.

Thanks. Step 1 will occur on the 18th and Step 2 sometimetime between now and the 18th.

These are meant to be replacement DDs, and so will run alongside two working DDs which will expire around Easter next. I'm therefore, hopefully, well protected until then.

I guess that the lesson may be not to use that Tesco option to copy across pulled-account / pulled-mandate (who knows which?) data, but to set each DD up from scratch in future. And to scrap the copied across one that I've done.

I just wondered if someone had debugged this in advance.

Sound suggestion by YB (post 331)

I have written this as my memory serves, which may help but was a while ago and confused the hell out of me at the time.

Had exactly the same issue as you first time around and ended up setting up a separate DD from the second account to cover all bases. Once all was up and running I ended up with 1 DD pull into 1 account and 2 pulls into the other. Additional pull was eventually cancelled.

Like you, on the initial setup, it looked as though there was only one mandate, but they did show on current account with separate ref numbers and work just fine.

When I tried again some weeks later (touch a hot stove twice) from a new current account, and this is where my memory is sketchy, the additional DD mandate did not show in “manage payment” menu, but did in “move money in” section on the dropdown, where I was able to enter Amount / frequency etc. Everything then showed up properly (after overnight update I think).

It is a bit of a lumpy system, and if I had to do it again I would have to re-learn the procedure, or set them both up totally separately. Not complaining though as these savings accounts are an excellent get out of jail free card for DDs.
