I tried to apply for a second current account. The start of the process says I already have two and I can't have more than two. BUT I only have one!
I called on Saturday, quite late, and they thought it was because there was a second customer number for me for a savings account closed I had in about 2009/10.

The same thing happened during my wife's applications. We both have savings accounts with Tesco and were applying for two current accounts each. My first was automatically accepted but the second required further checks (??). Her first was automatically accepted but the second was refused due to more than one current account already being held.

I'm going to wait until the first account has gone live then start the unenviable job of opening the second. Not particularly impressed so far.

    Hi,

I'm think of setting up one of these current accounts, but I only really want to use it as a savings account and won't be switching my current current account to Tesco.

I've just been having a look at the web page, and spotted this...
Get ready - here's the information you need:
Your monthly net income (after tax and deductions) and details of your employer

If I'm not switching my current account to Tesco, why do they need this information? And is it simple a case of filling in those details on the application and that's it?

    Many thanks

They will be using this information in their process to assess your credit worthiness, which will be used to determine whether you can have a current account or not.

Seeing this thread bumped up made me realise that I only had one Tesco current account so just applied online and been accepted for my second one. Thanks!

I missed out on a second Santander 123 account which would have been really useful.

I started investing in the markets in Feb, it's where all my money (about 6K total now) has been going (and is, I have no savings) since. In the last few weeks my portfolio has taken a bit of a hammering, plus I've also realised the error of my ways not having any cash savings.

So is a TSB 5% acct the way to go?

Are there any rules/terms that disqualifies you from receiving the 5%?

You cannot compare investments with a current account, it's comparing apples and pears. If it worries you that your investment took a bit of a dip recently, may be you aren't ready for investing. Investing is a long term, 5-10+ years, undertaking.

Regarding the TSB Plus: you find the terms here: http://www.tsb.co.uk/current-accounts/classic-plus-account/

Just applied, got all the way through to the Processing application and "Sorry there's been a problem". I'll call them when I can, but has anyone had this issue?
  • yes I got the message 'additional checks are required'

so am on the phone waiting to talk to them now!

Having just spoken to them they said:
someone is having a quick check through your application and details, we do not need anything more from you, either you will hear from us within 5 working days or you will receive your 'application pack'

so now waiting to end of week to see what happens I guess...
following on from this I have today received a text message telling me that my 'offers documents are now on the way to you. These should be with you within 3 to 5 days, please sign and return to progress your application'.

Guess I've done it then, there is no credit search on my file, wonder if they still 'remember me' from my credit card application a couple of months ago...

I used my Debit Card yesterday to buy groceries. Bill was £34.27. Receipt only shows 36 points - ie 34 for the shopping and 2 for bag reuse. I would have expected another 8 for using the Debit Card - is this correct?

I have checked my Clubcard Account online and so far it doesn't show yesterday's transaction. It also still shows my original Clubcard number and no mention of the Debit Card clubcard number.

I've phoned Clubcard and they assure me that the 2 cards are linked - the total points on my receipt and the fuel save seems to show that they are. However they couldn't answer any questions about the Debit Card points.

Can anyone tell me what should happen with the extra points for using the Debit Card?

Your extra points for using the debit card will show as a separate entry on your club card online account. Don't worry, in my experience it can sometimes take a week before the debit card points hit my account.
