Well done Carbootcrazy on your purchase of books for a £1. I used to do lots of Car boot sales too and it is amazing the good books you can pick up really cheaply. I went to a Summer Fete a few years ago, came home with 23 books, 10 brand new business books at 30p each. You did really well selling on your books ( a neat profit). There are a few books out there collectors are looking for (Rupert the Bear 1973 Daily Express Annual - Rupert must have brown face) can fetch £000's and also first edition books worth loads. Hope you find some hidden treasures in your book purchases from car boot sales etc. Worth doing a google to find out what people are looking to buy.

Thanks for that info, Dreams:T .Will keep a lookout for that particular Rupert annual.

The trouble is that it's very hit and miss zoning in on what might sell well when there are hundreds of books on offer and with no particular sense of classification to the way they're displayed (just all jumbled up in other words)! A village near here had its annual 1940s event this weekend and there was a huge book sale in the chapel. I went full of hope but there must have been thousands of books there (most of which were unusual and which I'd love to own and read myself but funds wouldn't allow:o.). But the prices were high (from £4 upwards) so it was a gamble to buy anything to sell. Not being able to afford a smartphone with internet connection where I could key in the ISBN of any hopeful titles I had to rely on my judgement and only bought 2 books:(. Both of them should bring in a small profit but as the seller was a professional I expect he has already checked out their online potential before setting out his stock.

And I agree with you, business books always do very well:j

Thank you Carbootcrazy. It's a good sum. I have had savings but I paid a credit card off with them so they dwindled a bit.

I am hoping to have £7000 by the end of September, I am expecting our flat deposit back so an extra push will get me to that target.
  • So Wifi, TV & Phone has been cut off, all ready for the move on Saturday! It'll be interesting not having Wifi especially my OH who loves anything Internet related and his computer games! I am getting a lot done packing wise, a van has been hired and help is at hand :)

I found a load of bank statements of when I was in debt and on a lower wage, shredding them made me feel good that I won't go there again and hopefully the next move will be a house buy and then I will be shredding all of the current statements. It's good to see progress even small progress is better than none at all. I need to remember that as I get quite frustrated with myself.
  • Hi everyone we have moved! :j

TV, Internet and phone still needs to be installed but we are in. We had to reclean the old flat twice to get it up to standard for our Letting Agent hopefully I will hear about it tomorrow as the owner will inspect it.

The next issue is getting my OH on board. I keep talking about houses, flats and deposits and he doesn't seem keen about it. Any tips on how to get the OH on board? I think I will have to wait until he is ready and save my own money in the meantime.
  • Any tips on how to get the OH on board?

If you can find somewhere that you would both like, and the mortgage is the same if not less than you pay in rent - how can anyone argue with that?

Personally I find it strange but one of my friends has brought a house in her name that her and her partner live in because he doesn't want the responsibly.. they have only been together about 6 years but hey ho.

It's nice to have your partners on board but sometimes you've got to do your own thing or you'll never get anywhere. :)
People don't know what they want until you show them.
  • Thank you for your suggestions.

DireEmblem - we have been looking at areas that we would both like. He is more on board than Tuesday night. So we will work that out eventually while we are saving.

Kayalana99 - that is my last resort. Save for myself and buy and become his landlady. But only the last resort that I think will kill the relationship if he isn't apart of the plan. We will keep talking.
