So far the Rules of Wealth of good. I'm at Rule 10 so far. It does make you think.
Anyway I worked out my Net Worth, that's savings minus debt so I am at £5574 not bad and not far off you Whizzbang but still a way to go. I also had a near NSD if I didn't have to buy a birthday card for my sister which cost 79p.0 -
End of week 1 Rockchic - and you've made a good start.
Whilst taking on a bigger place to rent might cost you a bit more it could be a good move if it helps you work from a place of organised calm - especially if you need office/work type space. Just make sure that your OH doesn't fill it to overflowing with his junk/treasures.
I've been renting a one bedroomed bungalow to get away from the worst of the mess from the house renovations. It's ok but I really miss having a designated office and workspace. And like you there is no real space here for entertaining. I shall be glad when prop 2 is fit for human habitation. Nearly there now.
I've just been reading the Zen Habits and it's very interesting - plenty of food for thought. And The Rules of Wealth is one I often dip into when I need a bit of a pep talk!!.
Early night for me, busy day tomorrow.
Keep up the good work - I am enjoying your diary.0 -
Just popping in to say hello and subscribe to your thread gothrockchic, enjoying reading it.
Rarely get a chance to read and even rarer to post nowadays, but I still get inspired by reading other's stories when I do.
Good luck! x

Hi everyone!
Thank you to Raykay and LessonLearned for stopping by and for your support too.
I was off sick yesterday and Sunday so no Ebaying got done
Three weeks ago I applied for a HR job at my current employer it was a bit far out location wise for me but a fab opportunity! Sadly I didn't even make interview stage. The feedback I got was good application but not suitable for the roleso how do you get experience in a field that you can't get into because you don't have experience! I will start the job hunt tonight.
Whilst I was off sick I watched a few videos on becoming a millionaire. It was interesting and opened my eyes to having my own business and becoming self employed. I have many ideas for this so I need to choose one and stick to it. One particular video showed me the importance of self belief and working on beliefs about money. That struck a chord with me.
So off to update my CV.0 -

LessonLearned you are doing so well considering everything you are going through so far. We do need some space and since I was promised my own desk we first moved into this flat and that never happened I am determined to get it. My "desk" is a dumping ground for his stuff
Good Luck with Prop 2, it will soon be finished :T0 -
Well I made a big purchase, a new laptop! My old one is six years old and really needs replacing. Technically this purchase will only cost me £17 as I got a PPI claim through last week and used my Student discount to get it down as much as possible. I hope this one lasts for four years at least0

All the very best of luck in your endeavours!
There is a wealth of advice on this forum, a couple of pointers I would suggest is:-
Segregate all your accounts into different buckets - saving/spending/bills/holiday/rainy day. You can open fee free accounts through quidco and earn £33/£35 in return. This should help you budget better.
Decide where to put your savings - this will very much be on how easy you need to access the cash and what level of risk you are willing to take.
Do all the free offers on Quidco.
Consider stoozing/Advantage play as detailed on this forum.
Review different aspects of your day/week/month by keeping a diary. Where do you spend your cash? For example if you have a takeaway each week, that can be great as you dont have to cook for yourself, but a chinese/indian/pizza takeaway can easily cost you upwards of £10, yet a pizza express on offer at the supermarket, or oyur own would only cost you £2.50 or less. Every time you can talk yourself out of a takeaway, stick that £10 saved into your savings!
All the best!0 -
Hi DireEmblem, thank you for advice I have been evaluating all of my accounts to make sure they give me the best value. I was thinking of opening another account in addition to my other accounts. I have also been on Quidco for years so will have a look at the new sign ups.
The last few days I have been spending. I thought I would have money to save that was leftover but no it's gone. So today I started a spending diary. And I break up with spending for now.
Next month will be tight I have a family wedding, my Mum turns a special birthday so I will be giving her money to spend whilst on holiday, another birthday and a potentialmove so I could do with not spending at all.
I am also working my way through the Rules of Wealth, it's a slow process but very thought provoking.0 -
Hi everyone, sorry for being a bit quiet. Lots of things are going on behind the scenes. I have started my spending diary and there a few things I can cut back on. Mainly lunches are my weak spot so with a bit of careful planning I can cut back on that. I think I spend £3-4 on average a day so thats £100 a month
Bookwise I have just finished Like a Virgin: Secrets they won't teach you at business school by Richard Branson. It is a good book and gives you ideas about running a business. It is an ok book. I must admit I do like Richard Branson but he repeats himself a lot in the book.
We have this family wedding this weekend so I need to pack my stuff for the weekend. Hopefully this won't cost too much.0 -
I have been reading Mr Money Moustache and Zen Habits - thanks for the recommendation Wizzbang - really good stuff.
Enjoy the wedding.
And yes, cutting back on the unnecessary spends will help. Work lunches, snacks and general expenses can really creep up without you even noticing so well done for spotting that and tackling it. That £100 a month you save can be put to much better use.0
