Be very wary of using something you have already defined a goal for, for something else. i.e. house fund on wedding. A wedding is 1 day and a home is an investment for a lifetime, that will probably continue to increase in value (consider it an investment).

You can do a wedding on a very minimal budget- I'm sure you'll find lots of tips online. People who spend a good chunk on their wedding, often regret it later. Buy second hand or hire a dress/ suits. Consider a bring and share buffet style reception in somewhere cheap, like a village hall. Handmade your decorations, favours (if you even need to bother with them), invitations etc. Get a friend to do your cake, your flowers, your hair & makeup etc. Hire a taxi instead of a wedding car. I could go on.

I would only consider investing in stocks and shares after your major life events are out of the way. Before you do, make sure you have used all of your personal ISA allowance (for both of you), which is £15, 240 per person, per year. Also before you do any investing, make sure you have an emergency fund that would cover all your earnings/ expenses for 6 months.

  • New to this thread, but had a quick read, good luck with your venture.

You don't need to get an official Pandora bracelet, look on Ebay. You can get cheaper versions called 'snake chains' and you can also get cheaper beads for them too, they're called 'trollbeads' or 'European beads'. You can even buy in bulk fairly cheaply from China on there and make up bracelets for friends/family - wedding favours or birthday presents etc.

    Excellent advice, Wizzbang:T
Just noticed your signature. Your 'extra earnings' in such a short time are truly amazing. I'm in awe:A
  • Hello everyone!

Wow a month goes quick, a lot has happened too.

Last weekend we were in Paris and we got engaged! So I am now planning a wedding . How we are going to pay for it I have no idea. The good news is we have saved a large amount towards the house fund already and we could use that.

Congratulations on your engagement:beer:. And Paris in the Spring too, I'm green with envy:o

Hi everyone, I can't believe two months have gone so quickly. A lot of changes have been made.

The main thing is that I have left my employer... yes you heard that right. I quit my job. The main reason is that I was finding it increasingly difficult to juggle work and job hunting. They say it's easier to find a job when you're in a job, but you have no time to go to interviews. I felt something had to change and it had to drastically change. So I handed my notice in and my last day was Friday. It has been a relief and guess what? I have had two interviews.

Trying to get into Human Resources when you don't have experience is quite difficult so I have been lucky and have been applying to quite a few jobs. I have also signed up to Recruitment Agencies to some temporary work. I also have my emergency fund.

So I am taking this opportunity to sort out the second bedroom and Ebay our junk and to hunt Wedding Venues. We also have a holiday booked (booked before I handed my notice in)

Our wedding plans are on hold but I can look right? :rotfl:

Sorry for the long post, a lot more is going on behind the scenes too. I will post more often too. This thread keeps me going and I am setting some goals and putting some plans into place. :)

I got my last pay today so I can pay my bills for the next month and also we can continue with the savings towards the house fund too. :j

    Hello!

So our trip to Dublin was good, we had great weather although I picked up a stomach bug on the way back

I'm better now and am starting to set some goals. I have also had a few joh interviews and am waitimg to hear back from those.

I have a different perspectove as to why I am not hitting my goals. The fact that I am now bringing in a steady makes me realise I need to have more than one income stream. I need to build some side project. I have a few ideas and this is the best time to start something from scratch.
  • I'm glad you enjoyed Dublin. Ages since I was last there but it's one of my favourite cities:j. Shame about the tummy bug, though.

Any joy on the jobs front yet? Sounds from your post that you are doing OK anyway.

I agree about the several income streams idea. Even if each one only brings in a little it's fun to diversify and if one suddenly dries up there isn't the panic that there is when all eggs are in one basket.

The only problem in my opinion is time:(. Getting several different schemes up and running can be very tiring and if some of them need lots of day to day attention to run and keep on top of it can lead to a complicated life often for little return. The danger is spreading yourself too thinly:eek:

But you seem to have your head screwed on the right way (is that the right expression?:rotfl:) and I'm sure you'll get it sorted in no time.

Whatever you do next I wish you the very best of luck and success:beer:
