The added factor too is that we have only recently adopted our son, and have very few pictures of him, none as a baby only a few taken my his foster carer when he was taken into care at 2.5 therefore it would have been nice to have a nice picture of him, especially in his school uniform..
yes we have taken pictures of him since he has been with us but we are building up an album for him when he was older and it would have been nice to have had a 1st school pic in there done professionally

When DD/DS were in the nursery class at their school the teachers took photos of them all doing various activities throughout the year and put it on CD for parents at the end of the year before they moved up to reception. They also videoed them and we've got that too. The school website also has photos of each class on there too (taken by the teachers, not the pro photos). Pink Lady has your son's school got a website that might have photos on it?

No the school website it quite basic. I did phone up the photographers studio at the time.. and she said the other proof of the class was the same.. she did have a look. and would have allowed us to buy the other one had it been ok, but she did say oh i can imagine how disappointed you were, sorry, nothing more we can do.
No nursery did do a few pics but all flimsy on just normal paper and the print colour not good.

Just have to hope he has a decent one next year..
The teacher has never taken any class photos they just sometimes take snaps of them working in class but never full face shots just distance ones..
DD is in year six and leaving primary in afew weeks time and when they came to do the individual photos in February she was under strict instructions to wear shirt and tie uniform for solo pic and then sweatshirt for the photo with her brother. Unfortunately she only wore her sweatshirt and didn't change into shirt and tie (she had a concert in the morning that's why she was wearing the "official" uniform).
I really wanted a photo of her with the shirt and tie, so I was a bit cross, but there's a shop in town (Max Speilman?) which sells various photo related stuff, and my intention is to get her into her uniform and take her down there for some photos, which are also quite reasonably priced so I'm told. I know at least one other parent who has done this. Is there anything like this locally to you where you can take your son in his uniform to have some photos done?

You might have a bit more control over how he looks too, no snotty noses or grubby uniform!! Lol.

But you don't pay - if you don't want the picture you don't buy it!! You get the proof, if you don't like it you don't buy. There's been lots of threads over the years about school photos and many parents don't like them and never buy them. Ours have single photos in about February and then class photos at this time of year every year, and there's always the chance that you might not like them or (particularly in the class photos) your child may be blinking, pulling a face, etc.... Again, all things I've seen my friends reject school photos for over the years but without having to complain to the school, after all it's not their fault. If the photographer has placed the children badly then I fail to see what the teacher can do now.

Ok, I should have said 'not getting what you ordered', meaning the school not getting a great service from the photographer.0 -

Maybe they'll use a different company next year. DD/DS used to have the more "traditional" class photos out in the yard or in the hall (if it's raining), I liked them. The company they use now takes them in front of a white background and snaps groups of about five or six kids (plus teacher or TA) then "photoshops" all the groups together to create a whole class photo. Less chance of what happened with Pink Lady's DS happening, but they're a bit, erm, sterile.

To the other posters, I just had my first real experience of on line bullying. Wow, just wow (as my 15yr old would say).
You weren't bullied, you were disagreed with, you came on seeking validation and found contrary opinions. Reading other threads in this section you should realise that this is, on the whole, a very supportive place. The majority reaction you found should give you food for thought, often the clearest perspective one gets is from those that have no need to placate you.0 -
Oh dear school pictures .....:-( When I was in junior school, it always seemed that Nitty Nora (anyone else remember the nit nurse) would come on the same day as the photographer (not that we were ever given notice) and I had plaits. Plaits that my mum would do for me every morning, with neat ribbons on the end. And Nitty Nora would come in, undo one plait, inspect my hair ....and I would have to replait it and put the ribbon back in - loose and tatty and the ribbon half-done up :-D She would moan like heck - after all, it wouldn't just be me - my two younger sisters would have exactly the same look as well! But she bought them nevertheless.
Fast forward to my childrens' school pictures - in one, DD wiggled her front tooth out just before the picture, and in another No 1 son had just been playing football - tie halfway round his neck, etc etc - you get the picture. But when we moved to a little village school, we were told when the photographer would be coming, and invited to bring smaller children in to get a family group photo!
Now I can use them to embarrass them on F/B ...or so I threaten ;-)0
