Seriously? Perhaps you should try to group a bunch of 30 four year old kids together and try and take a photo of them all looking at the camera at the same time and see how you get on. Still, never too early to make a name for yourself with your child's teachers!

I can assure you in no way did i make a name for myself the teacher infact welcomed the feedback she was just as upset as we were that his 1st school photo was spoiled !!!! actually !!!!
and anyway my gripe was not that he was not looking at the camera it was the fact that his face was near enough completely obscured by bigger children and a seat in front.
Anyone with an ounce of sense knows you dont put a child who is one of the smallest in the class on the 3rd row standing up

A professional photographer shouldn't cut off ANY child though, so I can totally see why pinklady was upset. I can understand maybe some kids not smiling, some kids looking in all different directions, but to cut off a kid, that is totally unacceptable.0 -

Its definitely a case of not getting what was paid for, and the photographer should go back and do the job properly, but when the poster said they'd had an 'upsetting experience' I was expecting something more serious than a badly taken photograph! A bit of perspective would help maybe? In the scheme of things its nothing really.0 -

Thanks so much for your kind comment, you are kind to reply to me I was in fact upset and still upset when your childs 1st ever school photo is not what you wanted it to be. No doubt every other parent loved their photo. I felt sad not buying it but why would i want to buy a photo whereby my son cannot be seen. Yes a professional photographer should know what they are doing.

it is a deal to me when it was his 1st picture, most parents would like to have a school pic of their child in their class. If it had been 1st, 2nd or 3rd year then i would not have had such a problem but reception is a bit different in my eyes.

He'll look just as cute next year too.
If it helps, I've got my eyes closed in nearly every school picture from reception to sixth form.0 -

But you don't pay - if you don't want the picture you don't buy it!! You get the proof, if you don't like it you don't buy. There's been lots of threads over the years about school photos and many parents don't like them and never buy them. Ours have single photos in about February and then class photos at this time of year every year, and there's always the chance that you might not like them or (particularly in the class photos) your child may be blinking, pulling a face, etc.... Again, all things I've seen my friends reject school photos for over the years but without having to complain to the school, after all it's not their fault. If the photographer has placed the children badly then I fail to see what the teacher can do now.

Didn't the class teacher take a class photograph?? Every reception class I have worked in has always had a nice class picture taken at least twice within their time there!!0 -

I can imagine you'd be disappointed if you were looking forward to seeing it and it wasn't what you expected but it's not the end of the world, really it isn't. In DD and DS's class I'd be surprised if any more than half of the parents ever bought the class photo and they cost a bomb. Fingers crossed next year's will be better.

the date of the last school photo my son had an important health appointment that lasted most of the day hence he couldnt have been there... therefore we havent had one this year.
Just have to hope he has a decent one next year..
The teacher has never taken any class photos they just sometimes take snaps of them working in class but never full face shots just distance ones..
