Does anyone think the sound thing you can buy will work in a yard? They look made for gardens
I'd imagine it'd be fine if you stuck it in a planter with some soil.0 -

Why were you scared of the cat? Was it vicious? They sunbathe on sheds, trampolines, etc. and when the cats down the road miaow at you they are just chatting and asking for some fuss.
I have ordered a sonic sounding machine and I frankly don't care if it affects them in their own yards (no gardens where we are). They are using my environment as a toilet and I will do everything I can do stop it. The machine doesn't hurt them.
I wasn't scared of the cat. I don't want it or any other cat coming into my yard and poo-ing - so the last thing I want to do is be friendly to any and encourage them to come in.
Thanks Aileth - I thought of that after I posted and thats my plan

Awww, I could never turn my back on a cat who wants to say hello ... probably why we have so many cats coming into our garden
I don't mind them coming in, I just want them to go to the toilet elsewhere ... preferably in their own gardens or litter trays.I used to be an axolotl0 -
Not read the whole thread but heard garlic is good0

I have an issue with cats too. I've tried most things and it's less often thanks to sonic repellant and a scarecrow sprinkler. One thing I did try was a putty that they don't like in their paws, I put this on top of the piggies hutch as they were after my piggies. Bonus is not only do they not like it it's hard to clean off so the owner has to clean their cat and their carpets if they have them, so a bonus of if I need to clean so do they.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0

I too have had this problem with cats using the garden as both a toilet and a sha**ing ground!!!!!! very annoying listening to them yowling all night!!
We bought some cat repellant from wilkos which smelt very strongly of garlic - it worked well but obviously needs replenishing every few days or each time it rains as it wears away. It also was pretty rank outside the front door!
In the end we bought a sonic repeller from amazon and its been brilliant. The cats walk along the end of our wall and dont come anywhere near the inside of the garden now
Suits us just fine as we are not a house of cat lovers!!! £2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
I too am haunted by cat poo and shagging noises through the night. I haven't found anything that works yet to keep our yard clean or stop our sleep being disturbed.
I would just like to correct those people proclaiming that cats like to bury their poo, cat poo doesn't stink and it's probably foxes. You're wrong on all counts!
I can distinguish between cat poo and fox poo and it's definitely cats. Plus I've seen the cats pooing.
Cat poo does pong - badly, especially when you're trying to scrub it out of your carpets or car mats.
And the cats round here definitely do not bury their poo. I've seen them going on the paths, on gravel, in the street. And the cats have the audacity to look down their noses at me while they're doing it like I'm being the filthy one!
It's definitely not an environment I would want a young child to experience. I'm sorry I don't have any solutions to offer you OP but I share your frustrations and you have my sympathy.0 -

I wouldn't in any other situation. I love all animals and would always make a fuss of them. Just don't want to encourage them to spend time in my yard, its the only outside space I have and there is often poo everywhere and it smells bad
(obviously I clean it but from now on, not with bleach) 0 -
Yes, I learned on MSE to stop using bleach!I used to be an axolotl0
