Sounds like a great weekend. Mine was spent tidying, sewing and partying.
I have been trying to declutter my wardrobe. Yes I too had several tops that weren't suitable so have been trying to get general purpose/wear anywhere/throw on anytime clothes, but it takes a bit of investment too. My first purchase was a Barbour jacket with a lovely William Morris lining - there was a woman in the shop at the same time as me and she has 8 because she likes all the linings! But I've just got the one which was meant to replace the multitude of fleeces etc. No it just added to the pile. I have bought quite a few tops too, so am not sure that I'm winning this war.
The idea was to have a capsule wardrobe - mainly jeans and good tops for the weekends, plus workwear and ditch the rest - do you have any ideas Veronica? Any websites?
Whoops time for work. Byee:)
ps. I think the answer is to just have a few good quality bits and to replace them quite often. Is there a question to ask about buying stuff like the do you need it. I generally don't buy stuff now unless I'm 100% sure (no thinking this will look great if I lose weight/buy something to go with it, etc.)
pps. Perhaps we need to pop over to the clothing budget thread (can't remember it's name now)OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

What a weekend you've had, I feel tired just reading about it!
I'm a list person, I love lists lol I'm currently working on my holiday packing list
I have a "one in, one out" rule when it comes to new clothes. If I buy something new I get rid of something old, unless the new item is for a special occasion. I also have a wardrobe of only clothes I ware and that can mix an match. I like to upcycle stuff too where I can, I've just made 2 pairs of trousers into shorts (one was to short due to shrinking and the other white ones were scruffy round the bottom)LBM - DFW Jan 2010Debt 1 13680/15000 -- Debt 2 0/4800Weight loss 23.5/76lbsNSD 2014 5/30 -- Savings 2014 2130/4260Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #173 - £8.10Sealed Pot Challenge #3950 -
Oh goodness. Of course I will marry you all. I can pitch in with cleaning (my OCD about draining boards and kitchens in general helps) and I am rather special at ironing. I'm not sure if I mean good or bad special. It gets done, and nothing gets burned, but I am by no means a sock and tea towel ironer like my mother wants me to be. Also, can you supply the iron? Mine has gone kaput! Must buy a new one tomorrow or turn up to work resembling a rag-doll!
Do you mind if I exchange wine for cider? I get plastered far too easily on wine and am a rather naughty drunk! I may have stopped a man ever returning to our local pub again on my 18th birthday and entered folklore in doing so... He should not have been bald, and staring at me, however, in retrospect I should not have told everyone those two things very loudly... Also, it isn't a crime to be bald thinking about it... Definitely not drinking wine again... :eek:
I am mostly winning the mould war in this house. Mainly due to the windows NEVER being closed. I can sleep through the seagulls squawking permanently. The perils of living at the seaside. But I can't sleep through foxes and owls doing their thing currently!
I got a huge boost from NPower today in my fight against mould. I am having a free boiler installed for my landlord! I apparently fit the requirements for some government ECO schemelandlord very super ecstatically happy. Haha.
Hope you're well and enjoying this weather. I am BURNED!

Hello ladies!
Gosh I am still sooo tired – two coffees soo far. All work coffees, though. Starbucks is not winning today! I’ll try and sound perky. I will.
Liltdiddylilt – you need to get involved in this marriage, you are already missing out on amazing Iron chat. Supersaver1000 and I recently purchased this iron, when both ours died suddenly. The cause of death is still unknown- http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9092088.htm
I like it. Mr Mars has eventually confirmed it is a good iron and much better than our other one. I got it on offer though for £26.24 – it looks to have went up to £31 now, but still not the full £34.99 that is was for a while!
My idea for my clothes is a combination of both of yours ladies. To have a classic capsule wardrobe. With plain, classic and timeless clothes (i.e jeans and t-shirts :rotfl: ) that I can mix and match with flats, heels, scarves, jackets and jewellery to dress up or down.
I started typing some lists today Mummy+2 –Going to print and ”laminate” (aka cellotape) them! I think I need some lists in my life. :T
You said is supersaver1000 – I want throw on ANYTIME clothes. Not a t-shirt that can be worn only with specific leggings or not suitable for this or that etc. I want one that I pull on and that’s it. Or if I ask my husband to grab me a t-shirt he does not have to go through a pre-approved list. :mad:
AND it DOES require some investment. I had planned to do this slowly but think I might need to escalate this process a little. Soooo……I obviously can’t do things in small measures….
I went after work last night and bought 4 dri-fit running t-shirts from Nike – cost approx.£100. OMG. :eek: I actually feel sick. Has been a long time since I have dropped £100 on clothes in one go. But I have pulled out 11 t-shirts that are 100% getting chucked out tonight. I have a couple of these nike t-shirts already and these are the only ones that I wear. I’ll picture and blog about it.
I had a similar issue with tights for work this morning….*sigh* so some tights might are going to be purchased soon….it went like this…
Those have a hole at the foot - can’t wear with these shoes;
Those have a hole up the thigh - can’t wear with this skirt;
Those are patterned - can wear with this outfit;
Those rub - can’t wear if I’m walking to work; and
Not those – I don’t like those
It is exhausting living my life like this.I actually do not care how much money I am saving – I don’t even think I am saving money as I don’t wear the stuff.
Still working my way through my toiletries – hope to in the next 3 months have most of the small samples and travel size things gone so I am left with the big stuff. That is an area I am not bothered about, just the quantities lying around annoys me and I cannot throw them out unused. It’s like binning money. :money:
Can you tell I am still tired? I feel miserable even typing this, never mind reading it. Mr Mars told me last night I do not do take beign tired very well. I'll need to do a blog post on my sleep routine. Yes, I am a grown 30 year old woman who has a routine.
Anyway I managed to do a brief blog post last night about how tired I am and the weekend away…with pitures, of course:

Just popping my head in to suggest that you weigh in any clothes that you're going to get rid of rather than chuck them. It may only be a few pounds but it's a few pounds lol

Awww thanks for looking out for me Alioops! :blushing:
Fret not - I donate all my clothes to the local homeless shelter. Anything that is not good enough to give out, I think they do the weight and pay thing, so my understanding is either way they will benefit from them! :beer:
A couple of pounds would be good, but I'm doing all right at the minute (well kind of - more on that in a minute) so like to think I am now in a postion to give back. :A
HOWEVER, I feel this is going to be a bad week.
Came back from a CANCELLED lunch today (resulting in me having to BUY lunch grrrrrrrrrr :mad:) to be hauled into a meeting and informed of 7 redundancies. I feel. Sick. _pale_
Because of the industry I work in they do not need to give notice. I am aware of this - We have had 3 rounds of redundancies the last 3 years. _pale_
Been getting a bit bullish about the finances recently, this has been a stark reminder that you need to be prepared for unexpected.Originally debt free 27th November 2014 :T

Yes exhausting looking through clothes you can't wear.
Ooh redundancies. Are you directly affected? It is miserable even if you aren't though.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

Ooooh thanks for the linky on the iron. I had a super snazzy £100 bosch thing (mum and dad paid) that lasted just past the warranty. I think its the heating majigger that has gone but by the time I have had the iron people collect, fix and return it, I have done the raggy-doll look too many times already and spent as much as a new iron anyway! I found it for £26.95 on asda direct and have free delivery from them or an asda in walking distance from home. When I was browsing on there though I got distracted by all manner of lovely steam generators. I hate ironing... my super snazzy iron did not really encourage me to do more, just made me feel guilty for not doing more... Haha.
As for clothes, I have currently outgrown all of my usual ones, but not yet grown into my pre-pregnancy usual ones. (sounds odd, but I weighed a stone less walking out of the hospital with baby Jellytot in her carrier than I did the month I got pregnant...) As such I am stuck with too tight and too baggy and nothing in between. Remove the iron and you have a real problem. I am not chic, or stylish. I avoid dresses and skirts like the plague but lust over them and buy too many. It has been too long since my legs were good enough IMO to show. So I live in bootcut jeans and Sainsbugs t-shirts. And a few good pair of work trousers with some half formal tops. I should probably dress better at work... :$
Gutted about the redundancies. I hope it doesn't involve you, but even if not, maybe start putting together some cash as a just in case fund and researching what you would be entitled to moneywise if your job did go. Jobseekers, tax credits, anything else etc.
